Tennessee Transfer Portal Targets

Was just referring to the not getting minutes part

You take things said too literal sometimes, I just meant he didn't see consistent/real minutes until Martin was the coach. In his last 2 years under Martin he only had 2 games where he failed to play a minimum of 10 minutes, both occurring in his Junior season.

Why Pearl was here he didn't play at least 10 minutes in 19 of his 64 games. And only played 20 or more minutes a total of 9 times.

It's the quickest way to change the complexion of your basketball team. I'd argue it's more important than recruiting high school players.

50/50.

Get the right portal players, but we aren’t.

We are getting good players, yes, but it doesn’t address our immediate need.

I feel like because we run motion and the PG really isn't guaranteed to have the ball for the majority of the possession AND we rarely run set plays it's maybe less of a concern? I love Perry on paper, but a guy with 1 year left that spent 2 seasons at the JuCo level throwing out big NIL numbers just to visit would be a red flag to me as well.

At this point I'm fine with adding scorers like Knecht, Gainey, Ledlum and letting the young guard talent have the opportunity to develop. If any 1 of them can figure out how to be a PG then we could be in for a very fun season with so much depth & talent.

Mashack ran the point a lot in HS too, but with KC & ZZ both here his first two seasons he just never was asked to do it until the end of this past season. So I think he could surprise people. I'm also optimistic that BJ Edwards could be developed to be a good PG here.
If our offense is simply to pass the ball around the perimeter until we attempt a deep shot with under 7 on the shot clock like it was for the majority of this season, especially when ZZ got hurt, then I agree. Mashack isn't a PG at this level though, not in a traditional sense. We can squeeze his square peg in a round hole like we did this year, but it isn't ideal, both for him and the team. This team and this offense runs much better when we have at least one guard who can handle the ball extremely well and get to the paint and finish (Jordan Bone, Jaden Springer, Kennedy Chandler). Mashack made strides there, last year, but he stuck out because he was the only one willing to even attempt it. Dilione could be that guy, but I'll have to see it to believe it with any of the others. I don't share the optimism on Edwards as a traditional PG in the SEC.

The staff passed on bringing in Perry on a visit in favor of Ledlum and Knecht, not sure that jives with the bolded.

If the staff had the opportunity to bring in Perry and passed, that is incredibly disappointing and does concern me quite a bit. Regardless of how staff might feels, this situation is eerily similar to last year where we are entering the season with only 1 true PG on staff except this time that PG is nursing a torn ACL.

Perry is a huge talent, so I’m not sure why they’d even refuse him a visit if he wanted to be here. I don’t like that if it’s true.

Kansas will have Hunter Dickinson, Jesse Edwards, and Harrison Ingram on campus this weekend. Must be nice. BUT CULTURE. Bill Self must not know what he's doing bringing in those heachaches...
You a Kansas fine or Tennessee fan since when what Kansas does consist of Tennessee Barnes looking for a wing Ingram is only one I would won't Dickinson defensive liability and Edwards is Olivier part 2 up and down

Been my biggest issue/concern

Very reminiscent of last year

@Stoerner Fumbles broke it down

Say what? I was under the impression it was Perry's choice not to visit. Are you saying the staff chose not to bring him in? If that's the case, that's coaching malfeasance IMO.

I just don't understand why we struggle in the portal year after year. I understand that Barnes is selective, but it seems other teams move much faster and leave us holding the bag.

We also have better teams than Arkansas every year. There are different ways to build rosters.
