Tennessee Transfer Portal Targets

Listen...it's alright to be annoyed and disappointed that Julian didn't set the world on fire here.

We all wanted him to be more like Jabari Smith or Brandon Miller (on the court only)…but that's just not what happened.

Still we as fans should want him to be drafted and as high as possible AND for him to have a successful NBA career. It only benefits us in recruiting if we send players to the league and they make millions.

“If Beard pulls Perry, I swear lol”

Just using context clues from how much you’ve been upset with Rick Barnes for not pursuing Perry more, nothing about that post reads like you saying it would be ironic if “the drunk” got Perry.

If that’s truly what you meant, then fair enough. No sweat. But, it’s a pretty reasonable assumption for anyone who has read your posts lately to read a brief comment like that and think you’re taking a shot at the staff for letting Beard come in late and grab him. That’s all.
I took it the same way at first(due to past Barnes posts), but what he is saying makes sense. From what I have seen, if he meant it the way we first took it, he wouldn't back away from it.

As much as I wanted a really good PG and considered Perry to be one, I have to agree with you. Something is starting to smell here and I showered last night. I'm a big believer in "culture" and "fit". Might be best if Barnes pulls away from the table on this one. Sorry Trippie.
If schools are backing out due to wanting big NIL money and or guaranteed playing time, I don’t really consider that any type of red flag. I can understand why schools would back out though, particularly for the playing time part. Money is what it is. Gotta pay big time talents.

If he’s walking on, definitely positive. If he’s on scholarship, neutral to negative - not because of him, but because it would be a harbinger of lack of portal or recruiting success.
This is exactly the way I feel. No offense to Gainey at all, actually excited he is coming here. But if he is on scholarship, it means we struck out with all our portal targets again for a second straight year.

Maybe I'm just too optimistic...

Santi returning and us landing Ledlum or Knecht = a win for me. Anything else will be gravy. Personally I want to see the youth movement. No offense to Uros, JJJ, or ON but they've all been inconsistent.

More excited to see Freddie, JP, Awaka, DJ, Carr, Aidoo, Mashack, etc. get more playing time.

Not sure about that... I was pretty excited about Bailey and he had a full RS season to get up to speed, no clue why he didn't live up to his rating outta HS.

I’m comparing Gainey coming in to how those worked out. Bailey was expected to be a scoring machine. Powell was supposed to light it up knocking down 3s.

I like that Gainey is the son of a coach. TN basketball relies on highly disciplined players and great chemistry. I think he’d fit right in.

I don’t think it’s that outlandish of an opinion. I never said I don’t want him here. I just don’t think it’s a needle mover, which is I think what most realistic people would agree with. If we find out later he’s a walk-on, I think that is obviously the best case scenario.

It’s not a “Wow” opinion. We’ve not exactly struck gold with guards from low major conferences.

Gainey can shoot and we need shooters. So it’s looking like the roster is starting to take shape. Trimming Phillips, JJJ, and Uros off the list. That leaves 2 spots. I’d say it’ll end up with us getting Gainey and a taller wing/forward. To me that’s decent transfer portal additions with the solid roster that we already have.

The Gainey hate doesn’t make much sense. His film overall as a basketball player is better than ledlum’s and he got more than 1 year to play. He is easily come off the bench and bring good production.

Literally no one here is hating on Jordan Gainey. Saying he isn’t a needle mover for the team is not hate. It’s just discussion.
