Tennessee Transfer Portal Targets

I never said that you said something negative about him, not once…I’m saying your stance of him being added as not moving the needle at all is an overall negative outlook on it imo. I think adding him, as walk on, is a clear needle mover in a positive direction…I’m not claiming he’s all sec here or anything, but compare our walk-ons to him and it’s not even close. If it turns out he’s taking up a scholarship then I would agree that it’s not a needle mover at all or even potentially a negative move, but as a walk on I’ve got a hard time thinking this doesn’t make us better as a team in at least the slightest bit.

Fair enough. I agree with your bolded statement, and my position will change if I do hear he is confirmed to be a walk-on, but also I just think my own definition of needle mover is slightly different. I think for me a needle mover is someone who fundamentally changes the ceiling of the team. Someone who can step in and elevate the team. Gainey, IMO, in his best case scenario is a 5-8 MPG type of player who will contribute 6-8 PPG. I think you can find guys out there other than Jordan Gainey who can fill that role. I also think that there are plenty of dudes on this roster who can absorb those minutes and fill that production as well. IMO, a needle mover is someone like Santi returning, or another high-major player. There is far too much uncertainty with mid-major and low-major guards for me to believe that they undeniably change the ceiling of a team.

EDIT: I am stupid. My math here does not check out. Taking the L.

Okay, I obviously didn't see your answer. Care to answer again?

Thank you. I agree. If he doesn't take up a scholarship, it's a good pickup.

If he’s scoring 6-8ppg in just 5-6mpg that’s a major needle mover!!!

With Gainey in the fold, go all out for Knecht and let’s call it a portal season.
Am I the only one that prefers Ledlum to Knecht? Seems like we have a decent amount of guys that are off ball guards. Mashack can play the three and I imagine Santi even plays there a good bit with Z and Dillione. Who is the 4? I dont want Aidoo and Awaka sharing the court often. JJJ and JP are likely gone. Ledlum can slide into that 4 spot, can score, better passer from what I've seen than his stats would suggest, can defend a bit. Played in a better conference than Knecht. I get Knecht can shoot threes but it seems to me with Scov back they are similar players on offense. I'd take Ledlum over Knecht if we only got one

I say take 'em both if we have the room.

Hatred (Noun) - intense hostility and aversion; extreme dislike or disgust; a systematic and especially politically exploited expression of hatred; to feel extreme enmity toward or to regard with active hostility

Please point to me a single post today about Jordan Gainey that meets the dictionary definition of hatred. Just one. No one hates Jordan Gainey.
Use whatever word you’d like to describe what many are voicing about Gainey. When you settle on the best one, go over the the football / recruiting forums and use that same word in the threads for every 3* recruit we get a commitment from. Same general negativity. JMO

Maybe. I just don’t think you can say someone “hates” Jordan Gainey. I feel like we throw that word around far too loosely in our modern lexicon. It’s a strong word and we use it to describe far too many emotions, IMO. I wouldn’t classify people thinking adding Jordan Gainey isn’t an exciting move as people hating him. I also think there is a difference between expressing those opinions and some of the strong euphemisms tossed towards Barnes and his staff during portal season.

We are def gonna disagree on that. The 4 won’t be an issue. Knecht is a player that this roster needs. Explosive player that can shoot. Santi and knecht on the floor at the same time could really stretch a defense and create better driving lanes. Watching film, knecht the better player

All of this is fair, but you’ve been arguing the application of the word “hate” being applied by some to the negativity expressed when one of our athletic teams decides to add a player that’s not highly ranked by the media folks. It happens pretty consistently across all sports. If the word “hate” is being misused, then what’s a better word you could agree with?

Per Rob Lewis:

Wouldn't say that this is absolutely a completely done deal yet, but hearing today that Vescovi has made the decision to return.
Again, there could be a last minute change of plans but that's what I'm hearing as of this afternoon and wanted to pass along since it's obviously a topic of interest for many.
