Gainey can shoot and we need shooters. So it’s looking like the roster is starting to take shape. Trimming Phillips, JJJ, and Uros off the list. That leaves 2 spots. I’d say it’ll end up with us getting Gainey and a taller wing/forward. To me that’s decent transfer portal additions with the solid roster that we already have.
Okay lol.
Good lord. I know no one hates him. When sayin he doesn’t move the needle for the team, that is hating on his GAME. Not the personHatred (Noun) - intense hostility and aversion; extreme dislike or disgust; a systematic and especially politically exploited expression of hatred; to feel extreme enmity toward or to regard with active hostility
Please point to me a single post today about Jordan Gainey that meets the dictionary definition of hatred. Just one. No one hates Jordan Gainey.
I would think that if he’s transferring in, we would see him in some capacity, even if it’s only 10 mins a game. Nobody is transferring in to ride the pine especially after being in college for a couple years.Won’t see any action next year, imo, BUT after a year or two in the system, he could definitely be what Bowden was his SR year, which would be a success imo.
Per On3 he’s the #55 player in the portal, ahead of, to name a few…I don’t think it’s that outlandish of an opinion. I never said I don’t want him here. I just don’t think it’s a needle mover, which is I think what most realistic people would agree with. If we find out later he’s a walk-on, I think that is obviously the best case scenario.
It’s not a “Wow” opinion. We’ve not exactly struck gold with guards from low major conferences.

Dontrez Styles, Dante Harris , Denver Jones, El Ellis, Adam Miller, Primo Spears, Caleb Mills, Skyy Clark, Dayvion McKnight and a ton more. Many of these are names folks on this board said they wanted or would be excited to add, yet adding a player ranked above them and very likely as a walk on doesn’t move the needle at all?

So now recruiting rankings don’t matter, got it, hard to keep up.It’s my own personal opinion, and no On3’s rankings don’t persuade me. I hate to do it, but I have to, you know who was #53 on ESPN’s Transfer Portal Rankings last year? Tyreke Key. We were also fed an entire offseason’s worth of hype about Tyreke Key on this board and how it was a much better pickup than fans expected.
Again, I’m not upset if he comes here. I said I’m neutral and don’t care one way or the other. It’s just not exciting news and I’m not going to be convinced I’m expressing some outlandish opinion because it’s a very common and fair opinion to have.

Only the most negative of possible Nancy’s could spin Gainey being added as a likely walk on as a “meh” or “not a needle mover”.Wait what? Dude, you’re being ridiculous. Bad day at work? You used a ranking to try and prove a point and I simply countered with a ranking.
You’re acting like I’m dying on some hill of negativity, but all I’ve said is Jordan Gainey FOR ME is not a needle mover. I’m entitled to my own opinion.
I guess I shouldn’t be surprised since as much as I enjoy our back and forths, you are always attempting to spin every move our staff makes in the most positive light possible.
Your takes on this topic are fair, respectful, and unsurprising. The posters taking any kind of exception are being dense and possibly disingenuous. We all love the Vols, but man, it gets really old drinking nothing but orange Kool Aid mixed with 10 lbs of sugar all day every day. It’s my own personal opinion, and no On3’s rankings don’t persuade me. Lmfao what a take…dense and disingenuous because adding a 2x all conference player is something I consider to improve our team?! Holy heck lolYour takes on this topic are fair, respectful, and unsurprising. The posters taking any kind of exception are being dense and possibly disingenuous. I never said that you said something negative about him, not once…I’m saying your stance of him being added as not moving the needle at all is an overall negative outlook on it imo. I think adding him, as walk on, is a clear needle mover in a positive direction…I’m not claiming he’s all sec here or anything, but compare our walk-ons to him and it’s not even close. If it turns out he’s taking up a scholarship then I would agree that it’s not a needle mover at all or even potentially a negative move, but as a walk on I’ve got a hard time thinking this doesn’t make us better as a team in at least the slightest bit.Absolutely untrue. I have not said one single negative word about him. I didn’t say we shouldn’t invite him on board. I didn’t say he shouldn’t have a roster spot. I didn’t say he can’t contribute anything at all. The definition of needle mover for me is just apparently different than it is for you. We also don’t have any confirmation that he’s going to walk on. You even said it yourself that you said you don’t think it’s announced that he is walking on, just that he is transferring to Tennessee.
Your attempt to paint my NEUTRAL opinion on some Negative Nancy light is immature and ridiculous. I have not said one bad word about the kid, his character, his work ethic, etc.
