Tennessee Vols Basketball Recruiting

Others have mentioned that but I wouldn’t think he’s giving up basketball if he was a full go late in the year like he was, doesn’t really add up.

Cone, Ihnen and Robinson-Nkahmou all have OV’s scheduled so that’s definitely interesting...obviously can’t take them all, unless Bone has a change of heart he’s off to the NBA, he doesn’t care if he goes 2nd round he is ready for his shot.

Maybe Barnes believes Williams is gone too then.

Anyone have firm scholarship numbers? I think we're allowed 13, right?

Bone, Grant, Bowden, Turner, Burns, Walker, Fulkerson, Pons, Johnson, Kent - 10 on team
Pember, James, Gaines - 3 incoming

To this point Tennessee hasn’t really pursued any graduate transfer, curious to see if they go after Blackshear...would be a nice addition even if GW returns, but if he is to leave would be a huge addition.
I'd like to see the staff jack up a non-entity like Kent and Install a Blackshear.

Correct. We will have two freed up if Bone or Williams leave

Kent has the potential to be useful.

I never believed the gossip here that he had been given up on and was as good as gone.

Kent is listed as 6'11 225 so it seems that at least size wise having him next year at backup center would be a better alternative than Fulkerson or Walker at backup center imo

It seems like Tennessee is in a difficult spot right now. The roster is filled with 3 *’s, and have more coming in. Now Tennessee is in the position to land 4 & 5 *’s or high level transfers.........but simply don’t have the space.

I think Barnes has been very cautious with Kent. One reason is Fulkerson had a lot of injuries his first year that could have set him back a bit. Also the comment has been well made he wishes he could have gotten a RS out of Kyle to have another year to develop him. So considering Kent is also a project I think that's part of it too. He's been here 2 full seasons and should be fully healthy going into this fall, he had alright production in his limited action and he has great size. I am cautiously optimistic that he's been developing these 2 seasons and may be more ready for action than some think.

Doesn't mean better options aren't out there, but this one is at least already on the team.

Iirc Barnes said he didn't expect any roster changes two years ago and just few days later Phillips was out

Because he is listed on a sheet of paper as being 2" taller than them. He is not a prototype C. So definitely not a "better option" than Fulkerson. Not nearly the defensive presence/shot blocker that Fulkerson is. Most likely a better offensive option though. Poor Fulkerson has a case of the Yips on the offensive end of the floor.

To be fair, we know next to nothing about Kent's defensive presence because he's barely seen the floor in his time here. Not saying he'd be a good defender but we just quite literally have nothing to go off of. But yes offensively as a 5 I think his potential as a stretch 5 could be a welcome addition

As for recruiting, Rick Barnes has been a steady presence on the road in the last week. As we wrote earlier he saw Keon Johnson last Friday and has also visited with four-star South Carolina big man P.J. Hall in the last week. On Friday, Barnes will be in North Carolina where he’ll visit with 2020 (for now) point guard Jalen Cone. We wrote earlier this week that Tennessee broached the subject of Cone reclassifying into the 2019 class and it’s something Cone is considering strongly.
Look for Barnes to set up an official visit date with Cone during their meeting on Friday. Barnes will also visit with 2021 point guard Cam Hayes at Greensboro Day Academy. Hayes is currently ranked the No. 16 player in the nation in that 2021 class. Barnes will then spend Saturday traveling to Florida to check in with commitment Corey Walker Jr., the No. 29 ranked player in the 2020 class.

Good to see. Johnson, Hall, Cone, Walker....nice. Liking the waters we're swimming in now.

I think Cone ends up in 2019, could be wrong but it seems like it’s trending that direction, and then appears like Tennessee will look to add either Ihnen or Robinson-Nkahmou with the other potential open spot. With Walker already in the class it will allow Tennessee to really narrow in on 2-3 guys for the 2020 fall signing class, I’m guessing that being Keon Johnson/Jaden Springer/PJ Hall.

He looks like a new born giraffe when I’ve seen him in warmups.
