Tennessee Vols Basketball Recruiting

I’m not so sure. This team lacked a leader on the floor, last season. An alpha personality. It would be great to see someone step up in that role as the vocal leader of this bunch with the number of new pieces coming in.
I'm probably over-analytical on this but I view "team chemistry" as how the team gets alone and likes each other. That's different than "on-court chemistry" which is how well they play and execute together. I've played on some teams that I loved the teammates and had no issues off the court but just didn't mesh well on the court.

Edit: Not so sure I quoted the right post there but too lazy to change it. Also I realize I'm debating semantics with myself here haha.

In this case, I’m talking about on-court chemistry. Lots of new pieces that have never played together. This is the kind of annual turnover that Kentucky has dealt with for a decade. Familiarity and experience playing together is becoming a much more substantial team quality with the kind of roster management and turnover that is taking place in college basketball.

First I’ve heard of that. Seems like speculation. Not sure why a kid as talented as BHH would be scared off by a guy from a mid-major with no guarantee it translates.
Maybe the better wording is I don’t think you’re getting both...BHH wants minutes, so does Gurley, both are almost exclusively going to come at the 4. Throw Fulk and Aidoo into the mix and those minutes are getting scarce.

I don’t think you were getting Gurley, BHH and Aidoo...if you had to pass on 1 I think the right choice was made.

I'd probably agree if those are the parameters.

Yeah, I think guys like Plavsic and ORN just are who they are at this point. I know when ORN first came to campus Barnes was raving about him and saying he saw a lot of Grant in him, but Grant was showing a lot more on the court by his sophomore year than ORN. I think he's reached close to the peak of what he will be but who really knows. Maybe he'll surprise this year.
Pons took a huge leap (pun intended) his junior season

Yeah the timeline of that is suspicious. They haven’t even officially offered Aidoo yet. I’ve seen reasons like “coaches still going through vetting process” to “academically ineligible”. Marquette is actually a very good academic school and when has UNC ever cared about athlete’s GPA?
They must be concerned about his coping abilities with phantom classes.

I know you’ll suggest I’m overreacting and we should wait it out, but the constant kick in the balls that is Tennessee athletics seems to suggest that we are going to be left holding the bag...again.

At this point, our best case scenario is now Aidoo, BHH, and Tamba. Only one of those feels mildly certain, and he won’t help next year. Key doesn’t move the needle for me, at all, and at a position with a degree of depth, that’s all he really is...depth. Dante is coming off of a torn ACL. Brooks seems like a pipe dream.

The inability to attract an impact big man is as perplexing as our decision to slow-play some we may had a shot with (Gurley). I hate to suddenly be so woebegone with regards to staff decisions, but an unsettling pattern is starting to develop. Even if Fulk returns, it will really just suck if the best we can muster in this offseason is Powell (who I like a lot), Key, and Tamba.
What about now, how we feeling @cncchris33

So, without reading back through pages, would we not be looking for a backup point guard now. I mean, if we actually take another big (Tamba), I would think those positions would be pretty crowded now.

If that is the case, who are we looking at for the last spot?

Oh yeah, forgot about Tamba. So do we look for another scorer next?

I would say there is a greater than 50/50 chance we close out with a guy like Key or a big man not currently in the portal. Seems as if the staff has zero'd in on Key if they do choose to go the route of adding another guard and not a big.

Under the assumption Fulky returns, the front court is in leagues better shape for next season than it was this past season, but it could be better.

Fulky/BHH will share bulk of the minutes, and you can expect a guy like Aidoo to get 10-15 as a freshmen. Ideally, we'd still like another impact big man that is a low-post rim protector and rebounder. I'd say we only have 3 good front court options right now (Fulky, Aidoo, BHH) as I'm not sure Plavsic or ORN are ever really going to give you anything more than mop-up duty minutes.

I personally think that ORN can take a step, but if these guys aren't going to play, shouldn't we send them packing? In that case - at least one moving on - we would have room for both, a transfer big AND a backup PG.

I know that we can survive without either, but while we are putting together a championship team, we might as well cover all the bases.
