Tennessee Vols Basketball Recruiting

As for what happens with Tennessee’s final two spots I still think it’s highly likely that Handje Tamba ends up in this class with the Vols and as for the last, who knows. Tennessee’s ideal would be to add an experienced big man through the transfer portal. With the haul that the Vols just made this week, and with Fulkerson likely back, how attractive the Vols would be to a transfer looking for big minutes is debatable.

Quite simply the Vols are pretty stacked now, both in the back court and the front court. That won’t keep Tennessee from pursuing someone in the portal if they like them, but in this current climate keeping one scholarship open to use at midterm is hardly a bad thing, especially when it looks like you’ve emphatically addressed all your needs.

I’m just surprised that some of the posters who constantly repeat the “Barnes can’t coach” talk aren’t here reminding everyone of how he will “fail” come next March. By their guidelines, Scott Drew is the only coach who can coach.

Not sure how likely it is, or if Barnes & company would be interested, but there's also the potential that Wideman (WR for Football team) may decide he'd rather move to basketball. So that extra spot may be required to move him over (honestly don't know though to be honest how it all works).

I feel like Wideman is not going to play for Barnes, just speculating.

Define failure.

Yeah, what happened to Wideman or Beckwith? They were crazy athletic bball players and I would love to see them on this team

In a different era of Tennessee basketball or football, maybe. Right now, I don't think they are needed on the basketball team; and even if they are, they are needed way more on the football field.

The era of the two-sport collegiate athlete is over for the most part. Wideman and Beckwith need to focus on football. If they want to excel in one of those sports, they need to pour all their energy into one just to get playing time. Besides, with how loaded this roster has become, Wideman and Beckwith really have no shot at getting meaningful playing time. Sure, they're both athletic, but it takes more than that to cut the mustard in P5 D1 basketball.

U can still do football and baseball/track, but not sports that overlap, now-a-days

I mean a local 7' kid who you can get in early to RS and develop while playing with Fulkerson, BHH, Uros, and Aidoo in a year where you get an "extra" scholarship (with Fulky not counting if he returns) I think this would definitely be the year to take him as a project.

Cause you could lose BHH and Aidoo after this season, both have potential to enter the NBA draft with good years or either could decide to transfer.
Getting in early is what doesn’t make sense to me. Normally when you’re ahead of your class it means you’re ready for the next level. Tamba is definitely not

He’s just a smart kid who has enough credits to graduate. A year in a college program would develop him more than another year in high school.

I think Wideman could cut it, he was a top 200 national player as a high 3 star with a higher rating than Santi & Powell.

But agree that playing both sports isn’t feasible and it seems both wanna play football.

More like a 4 star, 122 overall

I know I have been known to buy into the hype, but I love this team even if UT doesn't add anyone else. Aidoo, Powell and even BHH (almost believed he wasn't reclassifying) added to Chandler and Mashack was almost a dream come true. If Chandler is who I think he is, with the returning guys, man, special year and I think we peak at the right time, considering the additions needing time to blend. Telling u all, by late February, the 🦒 is going to start ballin when he gets his minutes on both sides of the floor

Maybe but the starting point is pretty low. He seems like someone who would likely redshirt their first season anyway, let alone coming in a year early. Just starts the clock even earlier in terms of eligibility.

What's crazy is Barnes can't 'croot.... but he now has 5 of our top 8 all time recruits (since rankings became a thing).

I think criticism of Barnes is more to do with his lack of developing post players (I know, Grant Williams). Until he can show that he can develop
a post player and get past NCAA field of 32, he will continue to be criticized.

With great play from BHH, progress from ORN and Plav, and solid contribution from Aidoo, along with making S16 next year, a lot of the criticism will fade.

The following year we will lose BHH and Fulky...theoretically we will have ORN, Aidoo, Plavsic...I’m venturing to guess the staff probably doesn’t feel ideal about that and feels if they get Tamba in here now that maybe he can give them something next year rather than another year in HS.
