Tennessee Vols Basketball Recruiting

To add to that, Cannon Smith, another son, married Collins Tuohy, who is the daughter of Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy. Sean owns many Taco Bowl and KFC franchises, and they are the adopted parents of Michael Oher.
Wow, I knew who Cannon was, and obviously know who Collins Tuohy is, as well. Had no idea they were married, though. Talk about a heated family rivalry.

I think he’s mediocre to average as an in game coach but with the talent he’ll potentially have, that might be all Memphis needs to make noise

you also have to consider having Larry Brown next to him. He may be 79 but he can still coach basketball...Hubie Brown won NBA Coach of the Year at 72 with the Grizz.

I agree. I think Memphis is a lock for the NCAA Tournament and probably a Top 10 team, all year long, especially if Bates joins 'em. If Bates doesn't go G League, it looks more and more like he will be a Tiger

I don’t get why a top 5 recruit who’s considering getting paid in the G league would pass to play in the AAC in front of small crowds for a team that hasn’t made the NCAA tournament under their current coach. If you want the college basketball experience wouldn’t you go to a top conference and play for a team that draws huge crowds and regularly plays in the tournament?

Especially with the now NIL money

Yeah, talk about some family success.

Got alot of respect for that dude.As a Titans fan I know exactly what he had to endure. You never heard anything from him,he just kept his head down and grinded. He was the only coach that stay retained since 2013 I believe,we finally got straightened out and he took the most of his opportunity. He could easily wipe his a** with 100 dollar bills but u gotta salute the dedication and hard work. Its something u rarely see today,I hated to lose him but I hope he has great success.

Penny and many Memphis fans played the season out before the first game was ever played. “We should be #1. We’re rated too low. We’re an obvious national title pick.” It was on and on and on ad nauseum. Then, the season happened and all the fans went away. Funny how that happened.

I have had this same discussion with this same 'welcoming group' back in 2019...

I like talking sports and only posting on a Memphis forum starts to feel like an echo chamber. I enjoy talking to fans from other areas/teams to get outside perspectives, especially when we play that season to provide a point of reference.

or perhaps I simply pay attention to the teams we play...like UT, Ole Miss, NC State, Oregon, etc? I like talking sports...

I don't see how anyone could use the last 2 years as a good measuring stick considering the pandemic...
Dan Hurley at UConn, also hired in 2018, made the tourney last season with a less talented team. Penny isn’t a good coach. Sooner your fanbase comes to grips with that the better off you’ll be.

uh, Dan had 8 years experience as a D1 head coach when he took over UConn...he's a known commodity

Penny was a HS coach...I guess it's crazy that I totally expect a learning curve out of Penny. It's why he hired Sam Mitchell (former Toronto Raptors HC) and Larry Brown to lean on as asst coaches.
