I think Powell and Mashack are the two who are the odd men out in that situation
If Mashack’s maturity and decision-making settle in with his athleticism, his ceiling is very high. He rivaled JJJ on defense in spurts, doing very well post switch, and taking shooters on the wing. His first step, wingspan, and jump are all NBA level. Given his ethic and willingness to grow, I wouldn’t count him out. Sadly, Powell is a strange fit. He seems very discouraged, and his strengths aren’t a great fit. Assuming we have shooters and drivers to take pressure off of him, I can see possibilities. That said, he’s currently a platypus.

Last year at this time Powell was showing up on some 2022 mock NBA drafts. Maybe that was over zealous based on a small sample size at Auburn but the point is there were folks who saw him as an NBA talent. I believe there is a lot of talent there and he needs to regain some confidence and Barnes and staff need to find a way to utilize him. Maybe not next year if we get these transfers, but hopefully down the road we can see what he brings to the table.

I could be wrong, because we all know Rick values experience and a true 2-post system rather than just complete small ball, but IF we bring in Murray, Collins, and Phillips, it feels like a post-player is likely going to be an odd man out at that point and you might see Uros lose some PT. I guess that all depends on how Aidoo and BHH develop, but their ceilings are far higher than Uros and with the return of ORN, someone with major minutes (not just spot minutes like Powell) is going to have to sit.

I could see Rick just going as much small ball as possible and rotating guards often and keep JJJ and ON at the 4/5. Hell you might even see some truly SMALL lineups like:

Collins
ZZ
Vescovi
Phillips
JJJ

That lineup would be FUN.

Bailey - 9.6 mpg
Fulky - 21.8 mpg
KC - 30.8 mpg

That's who ya lose...I actually think you see Santi/JJJ able to play less minutes if we add the 3 names we think we will. As for "odd man out" I feel like you gotta look at ON, Uros, BHH, Aidoo... with the players we have and adding the rumored ones I'm not sure we see very much "big" lineups from this squad. Granted ON and Phillips are both 6'8". I just don't see many games where Uros is on the court with BHH or Aidoo, but who knows.

If you land those 3 your every game 9 imo…

Collins/Zeigler
Santi/
JJJ/Murray
BHH/Phillips
ON/Aidoo

Bench: Plav, Mashack, Powell and Edwards

A change to the above that I would see as most likely would be Murray starting at the 3 and JJJ at the 4 with either BHH or ON at the 5…the staff loves Murray.

Perfect world BHH/Aidoo/ON progress and Plav is not needed…love him but he has limitations that he can’t help and that the others don’t have. On the flip side he also brought things the younger guys didn’t so we needed him, but that’s why we need them to progress.
What would say about our chances in landing Collins, Murray/Key, and Phillips?

Can Murray play the 2 and Phillips the 3?

First, I think you are slightly off base ... but, I am of the opinion that Rick is evolving his offensive strategy.
I do not think he favors small ball. To me it looks like he is trying to adjust to favoring 30 attempts from 3 per game ... and those are going to come from your best 3 point shooting players ... which last year were smaller players.
That may in fact be the case again next year. But, when he had taller guards who could shoot from three ... he turned them loose to fire them up.

Second, the post players who can become EFFECTIVE P 'n R players are going to see MORE time on the court in the fall of 2022.
Frankly, we did not have a center who were skilled at that type of game. The 5 who develops that game wins the starting spot on the floor.

I picked up my magic 8 ball, and asked the chances that 1 of Collins, Murray, and Phillips come here .... and ..... 60%
I gave it good shake and asked what are the odds that 2 or the 3 come here ... and ... 25%
For good measure, I gave it one more good shake and asked, what about a clean sweep and we get all three ... and it said ... This is not UT baseball!

If we land those guys, you think BJE could redshirt?

We also don't know how ready ON will be, they may have him on limited minutes to begin the season until we're sure he's back up to speed.

I really think BHH could carve himself out a lot more minutes if he embraces playing the 5 spot. Would allow ON/Phillips to play that 4 role and if he's good enough could see Phillips at the 3 in a truly "big" lineup of him, ON (4), and BHH/Aidoo (5)

But who knows, at this point hard to project without any certainty of what roster will look like and who we land.
