Grant Basile 🤔
6'9, 225 Jr.
Averaged 18/8/2, 78% FT, 1.6 blocks per game (reference, KA averaged 1.7 his senior year)

Had 21 points, 5 rebounds, 3 blocks snd 2 steals against Zona
Or Ben Vander Plas. Plays 4/5. Would be a solid role player IMO.

Against LSU and Kentucky had 12 and 15 points and shot 47% from 3.

Looks like he’s already narrowed a list down though

If Collins and Key are all we add, that's concerning.
I dont think it is the end of the word. We had a very good team this last year, and as others have pointed out, when you consider the development of returning players, it doesnt look too bleak
Chandler -> Collins (slight downgrade)
BHH -> Oliver return from injury (upgrade from BHH's impact last year)
Bailey -> Key (upgrade)
QD -> BJ (upgrade)
Fulk -> ??? This is where Phillips would have been nice, but Fulk wasn't sensational last year, I think his impact could be appropriated by a lower tier get, especially when considering the impact of development of Santi, JJJ, Z, Mashack, Aidoo, Uros, etc

we will be lucky at this point if we even find a guy to replace BHH’s production (end of season). No chance we get anyone close to Fulky’s level if we indeed missed on Phillips. Maybe there’s another round of transfers but it doesn’t look good for big men.

I loved last year's team and how they gelled. I still think we need more. It's not about things looking bleak. We'll make the tournament IMO. But I'm not convinced there's enough there for a run. I want to see us get better, and if Collins and Key are the only additions, I don't think that happens. Doesn't mean we'll be bad. Does mean we're not likely to take a step forward.

I hoped for more than what we've seen. I actually thought last year and NIL would make that happen. Looks like I was wrong. But maybe CRB pulls a penguin out of his ass and surprises us all?

I think Fulk and BHH's contributions at the end of the year are being overstated. Now I expected BHH to improve alot so its a shame missing out on that, but in terms of actual production lost, he still wasn't all that even at seasons end. I dont think ON returning and Aidoo getting more run will be a great drop-off
I think its a 5 seed type or better team and at that point thats high enough to have a run in the tourney, which is a crapshoot

I expect ON to continue to get better. I complained about some of the low quality shots he took but it was mostly because we didn’t have a reliable scorer in the post late in the shot clock. Im pretty optimistic about Aidoo filing that role.

Yeah I feel like not enough credence is given to development as a whole. ON was looking better before his injury too

His midrange game was improving and though he didn’t have many attempts shot 45% from 3! I feel like we can tap into that more if Aidoo is able to step up, which I think he has the tools to do so

Yup. Aidoo flashed a jumper himself, and that was a skill he had in high school

I won't even touch on Fulk, but I think saying BHH's contributions being overstated is an understatement. The guy was awful, maybe he would've improved a lot, but I will take a 4th year ON over BHH any day of the week. In SEC play, BHH averaged 2.8 points and 2.6 rebounds in just 10.8 minutes a game. Now as a starter that bumped all the way up to 4.6 points and 3.7 rebounds, but at the detriment of his shooting % (49% vs 41%). The reality is if ON hadn't gotten injured, BHH would've been getting either DNPs or 3-5 minutes a game.

All he would've been was depth, he wouldn't have made a huge impact on next year's squad. Aidoo's impact on the game was far higher if you look at advanced stats, on both offense and defense, and that was despite some inefficiency around the rim from Aidoo. ON impact is off the charts compared to BHH via the same metrics, in fact BHH was by far our worst player as far as the BPM is concerned.

Fulk's impact will be harder to replace for sure, not only on the court but from an effort and energy perspective. We do return 4 of our top 6 as far as BPM (box Plus/ Minus) is concerned, so that's a great thing to work with. Josiah will be playing more of the 4 next year anyway, with probably more of a role for both Powell and Mashack replacing the minutes Fulky and BHH left behind. I'm all for that personally. I worry about the depth, but with Key and Collins, I don't worry at all about top end talent.

Our potential upside with an improved Aidoo, a healthy ON, aggressive Jo and Santi, and either Collins or Z is even higher than last year. We were limited by our frontcourt particularly after ON went down. Fulky was solid, but limited offensively and defensively. Uros is what he is, and BHH just never really played with any fire or confidence.

In theory, all 5 starters can stretch the floor. The spacing should be even better, which should open up driving lanes and prevent people from helping off as much. At times when we had Fulky and either BHH or Uros, you literally had no spacing as neither frontcourt player could score from outside of 10 ft. That won't be as much of an issue next year.

BHH could stretch the floor as well as Aidoo.

The real issue is you’re potentially going into the season with 3 post guys. 1 who has no business playing major minutes in the SEC due to limited athleticism but will play 20-25 here, another coming off injury who has a good midrange and outside shot but he’s extremely limited with post moves and the 3rd is a great talent but really raw with no post game to speak of. The last 2 are great shot blockers.

Fulky was the only guy we could occasionally dump it down low to and get a basket reliably. You also have to consider what happens if we have another unfortunate injury in the front court. Or what about foul trouble? You gotta have more bodies down there.

Yeah your knowledge of front court players went out the window when you criticize Uros on not being a SEC player and incorrectly think he gets 20-25 minutes a game

Aidoo has the potential to improve more than anyone on the team IMO. Remember that he didn't even play for a significant portion of the season. Collins won't replace Chandler's scoring or his D. Chandler played bigger than his size on D. ON has been so inconsistent that I am not sure how you can depend on him game to game. Key might be the key (sorry) to this team's success. This team will need toughness and scoring (both driving and outside shooting) and Key might be able to provide this. I hope we get him.
