Tennessee Vols Basketball Recruiting

Both of those guys averaged double digit scoring for a reason let’s not act like playing in the SEC is some premiere league that those players haven’t faced already in their career. We’re not talking about division 2 players…

It's a big gap. Look at EJ Anosike, he averaged 15/11, transferred here, averaged 1.7/1.9, left for Cal State and averaged 16/8. Pember couldn't get anything done here, went down to a mid major and averaged 15.7/6.6. There's a major gap in athleticism night in and night out playing in the SEC vs playing in mid-major conferences.

Wendell Green, JD Notae, Stanley Umude, Phlandeous Fleming, Tyree Appleby and Anthony Duruji all say hello, and that’s just last year, and examples from 3 teams, guessing I could find more if I tried. Not saying there’s not examples like Anosike of it not working out, but there’s plenty where it works out too.

It may, but you just never know and that's why people are anxious. That said, I do think a guard will translate better than a big man most of the time.

You don’t ever know, same as the highly ranked guy who didn’t produce and transfers, nobody knows how that’s gonna work out either. VERY few transfers or even recruits are a guaranteed thing, but yes I would tend to agree a transfer guard chances are probably better.

It probably won’t happen, but the upcoming team could be as good as 2021-22. Maybe fewer wins, but possibly a Sweet 16. KC is a big loss, but every returning player will be one more year advanced. BJE helps with the loss of KC as will a transfer. KC was great at season’s end, but there were times when his weaknesses were exposed and exploited.

No doubt TN’s defense will be excellent again. What really hurt 2021-22 was not having a highly reliable scorer to end those long scoreless streaks that showed up almost EVERY game. A transfer could help there. Just one more scorer can open things up tremendously for other scorers like SV and JJJ and even ORN.

What hurt us in March where it mattered was Santi and JJJ being no shows in the ncaa tournament. KC carried the team till the end. Can’t afford those two to continue their March woes…

Scovis woes were primarily due to opposing coaches doing their homework and putting someone with length in his grill.

It’s not accurate to call JJJ a no show. He would have had a very solid game had he gone 2-6 from 3 instead of 0 fer.

What ended it against Michigan was that it was one of those games that physical play was permitted and TN wasn’t built to be at their best in those situations. Especially with ORN out and BHH being soft for his size. 2 for 18 from 3. Great game plan by UM to blanket SV and feed Dickinson. JJJ was 0-6. TN only took 12 free throws. A more tightly called game and TN could have advanced. One more offensive threat or KC having a bit more height and it would have been a tighter result. But the NCAAT is one loss and it’s over. Wasn’t TN’s day and Howard had a great game plan that didn’t have to be altered during the game.

By “no show” I assume you mean missing shots. Teams hit hard streaks. It’s not a thing you fix. We happened to hit one of those nights against Michigan when one of their guards shot 100% in the second half and doubled his average. Not much to do about that. We didn’t “no show” in the tournament. We had one bad shooting night that lined up with a freak night for the bad guys. It’s exactly what happened against Purdue in 19.

No shows can’t happen in March…this is two years in a row for Santi…

You really have a knack for misunderstanding things. They overplayed Santi. When Kentucky did that, JJJ made them pay. If they both have a bad night on the same night as a career night for Michigan’s guard, we’re screwed.

TN won 6 of their 7 games in March. 13 of 14 going into the Michigan game.

The draw was horrible again. No way was Michigan a normal 11 seed. They were far better than their record indicated. They were done after one game in the Big 10 conference tournament on Thursday. TN played Friday, Saturday, and Sunday while UM rested and prepared.

Horrible draw or not Santi can’t be a no show in a game in March not sure how you guys are missing this concept

You do understand that teams can game plan to take someone away and completely limit their scoring, correct? Only the elite players can overcome that. Look what the Heat are doing to trae young….. he finally scored some pts in the 4th qtr last night but nowhere near his usual and he is elite. The other players have to make a team pay for overplaying someone. Facts…..

Not discounting that fact at all, it’s just KC was the only player who did anything that game and to say Santi had a bad game would also be true. Good players tend to step up when it matters most

We took 15 or 16 good 3 point shots - maybe rushed 2 or 3. We only made 2 of 18. And we lost by 4…. Not counting the 4 FTs when it was over. That’s the story really. It’s just that simple. And they had 1 guy who shot 100% in the 2nd half and doubled his scoring average including a few crazy shots that fell. It happens. Sucks and I hate it. But you have to make shots.
