Barnes and co. have had a bad habit of putting all their eggs in a few baskets this cycle. Got burnt and lost out on other guys in the meantime.

Well, most of the best portal PG’s are now gone. I really have no idea where the staff will turn to fill these final 3 spots if we miss on Phillips, which signs suggest we will.

I get that misses are a part of recruiting/the portal, and I wouldn't hold Collins against Barnes and Co. given that it isn't as if he's transferring somewhere else, but whatever was "budgeted" for these players who didn't come to Rocky Top absolutely needs to be pooled towards Phillips or another transfer like Tyrese Hunter or Broome. A Top X list doesn't mean anything in this new landscape, so the Vols should definitely try swinging for the fences with a huge NIL deal.

I’m wondering if kids now, don’t care about receiving hard coaching and just want the quickest way to get to the NBA?

Barnes doesn’t seem the type of guy to promise anything. His way is to earn minutes and improve your game to his standards.

I’m wondering if opposing coaches are using that against him in recruiting?

Honestly after last season, I thought I would have a good chance at having to eat my Barnes can't get it done in three Big Dance crow this coming season. Now though I'm not worried.

Imo assistant coach turnover. English, Lanier and Schwartz all had been around CBB for a little bit and had connections built with kids, our two most recent promotions really don't have that.
And I do agree with kids not wanting to be coaches by Barnes, style wise how Barnes coaches and what the NBA looks like right now aren't in the same world. Even in the playoffs the NBA is playing faster and more offensively oriented than in the past. Kids don't want to defend they want to score.

In 2018 there was a rule change, they can sign with an agent so the agent can walk them through the process, but as long as they drop said agent they can come back.

While I wish Collins was coming, I'm still positive on the outlook for next season. I feel pretty good about every position except for PG. We have really good talent there imo, but we're going to be asking a lot of both Zakai and BJ. If they're up for the challenge then we will be good.

SG is great with Santi, Key, and Mashack
SF is very good with JJJ, Powell, and Mashack
PF has good talent level with ON and JJJ but I worry about depth for sure.
C should be fine with Aidoo, Uros, and ON.

We always have the ability to put Key and Santi at the point, though not ideal. We do really need another body that can play the 4.

I'm sure that helped discussions but the Bost thing happened in 12 the rule didn't change until 18.

There’s only a handful of old school coaches left in college basketball.

Barnes being one, Izzo, Huggins, Frank Martin, probably a few others I’ve missed.

But I agree.

Kids are a lot different now apparently.

Get ready to see Santi take a huge step back unless we land a ball dominant PG who can create off the bounce. We have no one on this team who will force defenders out of Santi’s shorts and into help defense on a consistent basis.

Kennedy isn't coming back but signing with an agent doesn't effect eligibility any longer.

I will be interested to hear what BTO says whenever he returns to the board. He practically guaranteed Collins was coming, and got chirpy with pretty much everyone questioning the off season plan because of it.

Collins didn’t screw us at all. If we put all our eggs in that basket and didn’t pursue other options, the coaching staff screwed us.

Unless CRB pulls something else off, this team takes a step back next season, which really sucks. Damn, other than KC's departure, everything else was shaping up so well. With the returning players we have, all we needed was a couple of key portal or HS additions.
