Tennessee Vols Basketball Recruiting

If you really have confidence in just ORN, Plav, and Aidoo, then I hope you enjoy next season lol
Aidoo has a chance to be really good but it’s not going to be next season. At best

ORN is a solid player but if he’s your best option down low- you’re in trouble.[/QUOTE]

Which is why I said, he’s clearly not the worst of our issues right now.

Really it’s all about guard play considering JJJ can’t run the offense.

Or did Sypre?? Are we really getting out-bid by Saint Louis? He wouldn’t have entered the portal only to come back if he weren’t soliciting offers.
I think that's a fair question. Does Spyre have the Doug Dickey mentality that only football really matters? If so, that really sucks because all of UT's sports have the potential to be great, and success breeds revenue.

I can’t tell if this is becoming an elaborate troll or if you’re being serious. It’s fair to question the seriousness of Spyre with hoops right now. At the same time, our staff is batting below the Mendoza line on their spring targets. At some point, they have to sell Spyre on giving a player more money or sell a player on coming here for a comparable amount that they’re getting elsewhere.

That still gets you in the tournament. Not realistic to think we’re going to be top 3 every year as deep as the league is now.
With the team we're returning, I think it was more realistic than some want to admit. It's not like we have to replace a ton of players. We just needed to find a good PG to replace KC. We lose a lot more after next season.

They have to sell Spyre? How hard is that sell?? I was talking about this the other day. This kind of dynamic makes it even harder to assess recruiting performance.

Wouldn’t pony up for Phillips, get out bit by SLU for Collins. We just saving up for a rainy day?

Possibly 2023 blue chips. Somebody made the point that money isn’t an infinite resource, and that’s correct. But it’s more finite for basketball than it is football. And if we’re being honest that’s probably a smart business decision.

There isn’t infinite money and it seems the boosters would rather spend on football
That’s what I’m afraid of. It is interesting to think about some of these smaller schools that are baskebtall-only with die-hard fanbases. They could be as big if not bigger spenders on basketball NIL than power conf football schools.

This is a unpopular opinion but most of Spyre’s money is going towards the football program.

Fans will still put their butts in Neyland Stadium even if we’re only winning 6-7 games a year.

Heupel and his staff are benefiting from a good amount of money from Spyre to potentially land a Top 5 class. 8 million NIL deal for an Elite High School QB should be enough proof where the football and basketball program stands right about now.

Spyre's commitment to basketball is a legitimate worry. CRB can't make them pony up better offers.

Yeah I don’t know the answer. I’m not even suggesting this is necessarily the case. I’m just positing the question because it’s a hard situation to know for sure all that is at play and be able to make a good assessment of it

Really don’t understand the point in not giving Phillips the NIL. What’s the alternative? What’s the backup plan? There clearly isn’t one. It’s not like we already have 2-3 other blue chips coming in asking for big $ to where Phillips wasn’t in the budget.

So either you pay for the kid and build a contending team or don’t, and settle for mediocrity.

Head scratcher.

Also, are we now at the point where questioning Spyre gets someone labeled as a troll? Lol!

I get that most of the money is being earmarked for football, but I just find it hard to believe that there's no real money for basketball.
