Tennessee Vols Basketball Recruiting

Yeah DJ Burns is probably one of the laziest players I've seen in recent memory come through Knoxville.

Faced with a choice to focus more and work harder he transferred out, and then gained weight and legit doesn't do anything besides shoot the ball. Less than 5 rebounds a game, less effort on blocks or steals and next to no assist. Shoots sub 65% from the FT line too. He just wants to shoot and play offense. If he had anywhere near the work ethic that Grant or Admiral had he'd be in the NBA right now.

I would inquire, and if you miss on Phillips and a couple others maybe go that route, but he’s literally JJJ 2.0 but slightly lesser, not sure there’s a major need for that.
That’s what it seemed like to me too. Assuming JJJ is back next year, this guy is probably a little bit too good for the role he’d be asked to play here.

Haha Burns. He did alright this year, but 4.5rpg for a guy his size is awful.
He’s been Winthrop’s best player since he got there but he can’t play more than 20 minutes because he’s grossly out of shape and won’t put in the work to get conditioned. That’s why he never played here and why Barnes didn’t lose any sleep over him leaving.

He would be an NBA player if he had the work ethic, because the talent is there.

Me too - seems like he’s at about the right place for him. Maybe there’s no NIL money in that league and he’s testing the waters to see if there’s a spot for him in a richer league?

Yea I don't see his motor matching with a HM team or getting any NIL really for a guy who can only play 20MPG. This could turn out to be a bad decision for him, seemed like a good place for him to do what he wanted.

I know we’re talking in hypotheticals, but even if he were to get in shape is there a spot for 6’- 9” low post players in the nba? He how’s some talent, but I don’t see nba talent wrapped in a fat suit. JMO
Yes. Grant Williams, Draymond Green, etc.

But you know neither of those guys set up on the low post and wait on an entry pass which is Burn’s game
I’ve seen Grant post up. Not as often as he did in college, but I’ve seen him do it. It may be rare, but that doesn’t mean there’s not a spot for Burns if he were to buy into nutrition.

Day’Ron Sharpe is another 6-9 guy who is listed actually as a center.

Well every GW offensive highlight I’ve seen of late is him shooting a corner 3?

That’s what he does majority of the time, but he does post up depending on the match up. .He posted up Kyrie in game one of the playoffs I believe. I’ll go back and find the clip for you.

Don’t bother as posting up a guard isn’t what we were discussing.

I can see the Randolph comparison, but is he still in the league and producing? I know this is a huge generalization, but the nba has become mostly a 3 pointer, free throws or dunk league these days. GW wouldn’t be getting that second contract if he was setting up on the low post every play
