Tennessee Vols Basketball Recruiting

Well, I might be in the minority, but I would have preferred to not lose BHH and Powell. I do think both of them have a lot of talent that with time Barnes could hopefully have teased out and turned them into stars.

Besides....there is never a guarantee you're going to upgrade on any spot that opens up. We might upgrade! But, it's an unknown.

Powell was extremely limited offensively & defensively.

Not sure another year in the system would have made a difference.

I agree, I’d prefer everyone stay and take big leaps in development like Kyle Alexander, Pons, Admiral, etc. but that’s also not a guarantee. I guess I meant more relative to what some other prominent teams have lost, we aren’t losing a lot in terms of actual production, as opposed to potential production.

I guess that is true, assuming Vescovi and JJJ do indeed come back......which, considering how this off-season has gone with roster attrition I have some BVS feelings that one of them might decide to stay-in or go overseas.

It's going to be very interesting how Barnes fills out this roster. So many possibilities. Not much info about who we're interested in.

When one of those two or ZZ or Olivier leaves I’ll start to panic. For now, I feel like we can upgrade just about everyone we lost apart from Chandler and maybe BHH and Fulky.

Apologies, spent the day out on the lake, summary…

As recruiting goes things can change quickly, maybe it’s on me for saying it was a done deal, but it was as much a done deal as it could be. SLU AD started pushing the tampering allegations and threatening pursuing them and making it public, Barnes got cold feet and basically pulled the plug on Collins coming here. He was supposed to originally visit Monday and it got slowed down, then again they were gonna bring him in this weekend but that’s when the tampering smoke thickened. Again, apologies for calling this one a done deal, but I really thought that was safe to say.

The other aspect of everything going on is NIL, Rick is definitely not transitioning well to it and also isn’t just getting out of the way of assistants who are younger and allowing them to handle it. He hasn’t done a good job communicating with Spyre and they feel in the dark in regards to hoops quite often, Rick isn’t necessarily against NIL but it’s not actively pursued like just about every other current school.

There’s also some rumblings that Powell is back to considering heading for a pro deal, obviously if that happens we are back to 4 open spots. How Barnes and staff fill this roster now will be very interesting, and if you’re worried I get it, I will wait and see how it unfolds before declaring us as crappy or doomed etc. I also think calling for the guy to step aside at this point before having a “bad season” is premature, I agree that if recruiting doesn’t pick up he’s dealing himself a tough hand, but again I will see how it plays out.

Still think he goes with the deal but will try to fish around for a NIL deal

Good lord. We have 4 current open roster spots AFTER accounting for Edwards and Key. This might be the most significant roster turnover in.....I don't know, but a long time. That is 7 players from last year's roster now gone.

I'm sure many people won't care about Powell, but I think he still had a lot of potential, and losing half your roster is never a "fun" thing to go through.
Didn’t we lose 7 or 8 the prior year? Lol

Hunter/ZZ
Vescovi/Key
Smith/
JJJ/Phillips I'm sure Phillips will play the 3 as well
Aidoo/ORN

BJE, Plav, Mashack, and as the odd men out. Awaka redshirts.

idk if I filled all of the spots, if we get any of these guys or if they lineup would shake out like this, but give me. That starting lineup/rotation would be the best in the SEC next year and it wouldn't be close.

You should take a look at some other rosters Kentucky and Arky top 5 preseason.

Over the next several years, you’re about to see a bunch of lower level coaches get paid to come to P5.

Coaches who are accustomed to cobbling together and gelling players from across the basketball spectrum are about to be preferred to “developers”.

Wake Forest landed one of the best to do it - Steve Forbes.

Each year is free agency right now. If you ain’t starting, you’re moving, seems to be the motto.

Grab your popcorn

Not a giant surprise to see more leave. Makes sense that we are pursuing so many in the portal and more high school guys. I still hope we can add at least one good big man and one good point guard. Everyone else we add is gravy. I wouldn't even mind saving a spot for either mid-season or 2023.

It was called out when he signed here that he basically bounced around starting in high school. He would be best served to stick it out somewhere. Maybe these will be life lessons for someone like him. At some point you can’t always just pick up an move on

At this point I don’t see how we don’t leave a spot open for 2023. If we don’t I feel like we will end up with at least one reach… a Tamba type talent who will be processed after a year.
