Tennessee vs. Kentucky in the Sweet Sixteen. Are you nervous?

Big time nervousā€¦..

For Kentucky fans. Just imagine all that history and titles your basketball program has while being a laughing matter in all other sports and then losing to your main sec rival in the sweet 16 in the first ever ncaa tournament game against them. Would be devastating to their fragile ego.

I think a lot of uk fans wouldā€™ve been content to make a sweet 16 and end up losing to a high seed, but it is definitely a different dynamic with such a familiar opponent now. We were a fringe preseason top 25 team, probably overachieved to end up in the sweet 16, but it feels like we have the potential to beat anyone on the right day.

I can understand some of yā€™all would be nervous playing slippery rock at this point - and I get it. But this KY team ? Bring it ON!

This is the matchup we wanted. I guarantee you Rick Barns was hoping for this on selection Sunday. I know I was!

Think about the chance to send them homeā€¦ā€¦They are going to have 40,000 sad bastards driving home from Indiana and the rupps rafters board will provide great reading for days on end.

The ass whipping those people are due has been a long time coming. Feels like Christmas week to me!

Yall sound like a bunch of pussies šŸ˜‚

We have some dogs on this team. You really think we are gunna come into this game tight?

Yall need to be a little bit more like our 5ā€™8ā€ man from Brooklyn, who no one believed in, who almost quit basketball, but Rick Barnes saw something in him, who had two basketball scholarships coming out of high school, who went on to become a storied Vol legend, a TWO TIME defensive player of the year in our conference and third team all American: get that dog in you!

Stop tucking your tail between your legs and let your damn balls drag the floor. Letā€™s go win this, ruin Kentucky's season, and punch a ticket to the second consecutive elite eight.

If youā€™re nervous, I get it that itā€™s because you love our vols. I do too.

But hereā€™s what I can do for you, you can ride off my confidence: we assert our will on Kentucky and we win.

Happy to get another shot at them. In both games against us they shot 50% from 3. No one else has done that to us. Can they do it again in a football stadium with unfamiliar rims and weird sight lines? History says no. The only problem is, our offense lately has been all about getting Lanier open for 3s. Heā€™s the only guy they bothered to guard from 3 in our gym and nobody else could throw it in the ocean that day. If both teams struggle from 3 then it becomes our bigs against theirs and I donā€™t know how well I like that matchup. Glad Rick has a week to cook something up. Expect to see some new sets and offensive plays. Heā€™s pretty tough with time to prepare.

If we continue where we left off last night then when we have nothing to worry about. If we get into a 3 point shooting contest with them again, then we are in trouble.

Iā€™m nervous about the Houston/Purdue matchupā€¦really want to get revenge on Purdue for last seasonā€˜s game.

Very rare opportunity to possibly get revenge on our rival who beat us twice this year, and finally get the Purdue monkey off of our back since they always seem to have a horseshoe up their a$$ every time they play us in any sport

That horseshoe last year was an 8 foot goon that camped out in the lane and shot free throws every time someone breathed on him.

Itā€™s all about shooting. In the first games we were 5 of 33 on UNCONTESTED shots. Truly cases of beating ourselves. Shoot even just decent and we win.

Much like Purdue last year, this is just a bad match up for us.

Can they win? Absolutely, but itā€™s going to take a near perfect game to pull this off.

Hopefully Barnes and his staff can figure out a way to counter their play style.

Kentucky depends on the 3. Pick them up before half court and make them beat you inside.

Most Kentucky fans I know say all this but I think they're lying, or lying to themselves. Losing and having your season end when you're close to the pinnacle is just lousy, house money (low expectations, etc) or not.

I'll say the same thing I said before the last KY game - just take away the damn 3-pt. line. Guard them straight up, switch on all screens, force them to take contested 2's, and rebound the ball on both ends. Do those things and shoot decently and we move on.

I'm looking forward to it. It is really hard to beat a team three times, and we played about as poorly in both games against them as we did all season other than the Florida loss. I'm feeling very good about this.
