Tennessee vs South Carolina Official game thread (6:30 SECN)

Disagree with both points, personally. We just had an off night. Sky isn’t falling.
We never are the team with more swagger - home or away. Not sure you can coach that but a Pearl team would never have played as flat as this at home. The crowd at TBA is totally dependent on the team firing them up - never works the other way.

This game underscores the question many of us have had. If DK has an off night, is anyone else going to be there to pick up the slack? Feels weird saying DK was off after scoring 31 on 24 shots, but I think we’d all agree this wasn’t his best performance. He got hot late, but for the longest time he was pretty shaky in the second half. He really needed a Robin tonight and there was no Robin, only Batman. Sometimes Batman can’t do it alone.

If this team doesn’t find a consistent Robin, maybe a couple of Robins, the ceiling will be however far DK can take us. Hard to expect one guy, even someone as good as DK, to take us very far with no consistent sidekicks.

I felt like Tobe played well, but yeah, this wasn't fun tonight.

It was a bad day at the office for UT. Sankey had the SEC Network constantly putting the "NCAA investigating Tennessee..." and then he put a call into Pat Adams at halftime to say "Hey, do a quick three touch fouls to play some mind games and give Tennessee my best regards."

Well, they never should have been double digit favorites over this team. I never for a second thought this would be a certain win. SC plays physical and wants a rock fight, we fell exactly into their plans.
Yes they should. We win that game comfortably if we make free throws and layups. On the road? A toss up game, but at home you have to win.

The refs that missed about 7 bunnies and shot 60 percent from the line should be fired
Yes. We know Tennessee missed shots they should have made. More concerning were the 5 phantom fouls in the second half (3 in 30 seconds). Each set of phantom fouls came as soon as Tennessee went on a run.

Our crowd has no idea how to get in to the game. Sitting here watching the Ole Miss game. What a rowdy place. I know the shape of the gym and where fans are positioned in the stands has something to do with it, but on TV anyway we don't sound loud at all.
Danny says we have an elite atmosphere, so trust him.

Their defense was legit in the sense that the refs swallowed their whistles all game. Tennessee would hold teams to under 50 every game if we got that kind of help from the refs.

Was a bad officiating night, but South Carolina is the best scoring defense in the SEC. Had they officiated the first half like the 2nd I think we would have pulled it out. But really good defenses that have length can beat us even with DK having a huge night unless he can drop 70 on someone.

Been a weird stretch from ZZ. He had 6 games in a row where he averaged 18.5 ppg, and these last 4 he's averaging just 6.8 ppg... and tonight Gainey didn't pickup the slack and JJJ continues to struggle.

Also where was Freddie tonight?

The bigger issue for me officiating wise was Mack shoving all night and almost throwing an elbow and never getting called. Ultimately, they should ah e gotten the win based on the free throw opportunities they had and the missed bunnies.

I’m heart broken right now. Aidoo uncharacteristicly missed 5+ bunnies. Zeigler gives us nothing but 2/4 from the free throw line. No points from Gainey nor Mashack. Kudos to SC as they did enough to win, but we refused to not lose tonight. Even with DK’s late heroics, he missed 3 free throws late that would have tied it up with around 2 minutes left. Been awhile since we’ve had a real stinker on the offensive end, but we pulled one out tonight. Make free throws and layups and we win by 15

Team Overall
21-58 FG (36.2%)
5-21 3pt (23.8%)
12-20 FT (60.0%)

Team w/o Knecht
10-34 FG (29.4%)
2-13 3pt (15.4%)
6-10 FT (60.0%)

On our home court none the less. You are not beating many teams in the SEC with those percentages and contrary to many Knecht can't carry the entire team.
Those are some awful stats to have to digest.

Agree 100%. This is the kind of loss that can keep you from securing the conference. Hope is not lost by any means, but dropping one at home def palpably hurts.

Have to steal one, maybe two on the road, when you drop one at home. There’s still a chance, but it gets a lot harder when you drop a home game.
