Oklahoma will take their foot off the gas well before they get to 70 points, a la Oregon last year.

It will be 45-3 at the half and they will score 10 points with their third team in the second half.

Final score 55 to 10 (the Vols will get a late meaningless TD and people will say that Worley or Dobbs performed well).

No matter how respectable you think those programs are, the rest of the country considers them cupcakes. And SEC teams are expected to smash cupcakes at home. We wont be ranked no matter how bad we beat them because all we will be doing is meeting expectations.

We have to do something UNEXPECTED to get ranked, like beating OK on their field.

To finish in the top 25 would probably mean going 9-3 or at the very least 8-4. Both of those are pretty unlikely unless some of these players are better than all indicators seem to point to.

I think it's going to be similar to the 2009 USC game. The new helmet will most likely be unveiled for the UF game, so expect the crowd to be the 12th man. Pair that with coming off 2 losses to Ok and UGA, and our guys should be fired up. And don't think Butch won't remind his team all week that the Vols haven't beaten UF in 9 years. They will be focused and ready to smack Florida in the mouth from the opening kick. Book it. 4-2 after the Chat game.

Here are the paths to getting ranked early IMO.

Possible after 2-0 start: (10%)
We shut out USU & ASU like 55-0 and 63-0, Worley (or other) is firmly entrenched as starting hi efficiency QB & D is dominant.
Good wins like 34-17 and 38-7 and no chance for top 25.

Probable if we beat OK to go 3-0: (90%)
Unless the first two wins are OT miracles and OK simply has some kind of crazy loss. (Like a snowstorm, all 3 qbs injured in 1st Q, or 1/2 team comes down w flu etc.) If we are undefeated and beat the #2-4 team in the nation at their place on national TV, then Butch will be a hero, we'll be media darlings (well at least for us) and VN will be debating whether we play the Barn or have a Bama rematch in Atlanta. We'll easily be in.

JMO.

I don't believe it will happen, but if we beat Oklahoma and go to 3-0 we will be ranked in the top 25. Beating a top 5 team and having an undefeated record will get you in the top regardless of the amount of teams that are 3-0.

The $hitty part about it is we would probably beat the teams in the bottom half of the Top 25...but for some reason we always play teams in the top half, or teams that aren't on it at all. We're in purgatory.
