Tennessee will be ranked in top 25 by third game

I understand those who temper their their potential disapointment by expecting the worse. Some of my fellow Vol fans did that when we were rolling in the 90's and it is especially understandable after the the past few seasons led by coaches(like Al Wilson) i wont mention. We love college football partly because every season brings something new and unexpected...sometimes it's a special player or maybe a bunch of guys who together gel as a team. I happen to believe this team will gel. Time will tell...college kids playing ball...GO VOLS!!!

No matter how respectable you think those programs are, the rest of the country considers them cupcakes. And SEC teams are expected to smash cupcakes at home. We wont be ranked no matter how bad we beat them because all we will be doing is meeting expectations.

We have to do something UNEXPECTED to get ranked, like beating OK on their field.

I disagree. I've not heard a single thing from the media, when mentioning either of these games, who believes UT will walk over these teams. I've heard a few ppl call for USU to pull the upset (and we are only a TD favorite in that game BTW). So if we cream those two teams very well could be in the top 25.

I think we beat Utah State 34-13....Destroy Arkansas State 47-10.
We go into week three under the radar into Norman and pull an upset late in the fourth quarter....Tennessee 31 Oklahoma 24

I'm not sure they would rank us in the top 25 if we start the season 4-0.

Hope you're right though.:hi:

Undefeated with wins over Oklahoma AND Georgia?

I'll go ahead and "be sure" for you.

unfortunately 'close losses' don't help rankings, atleast the ones going up, may just keep you from dropping as far. I guess unless of course a lot of people have really bad losses.

I don't believe it will happen, but if we beat Oklahoma and go to 3-0 we will be ranked in the top 25. Beating a top 5 team and having an undefeated record will get you in the top regardless of the amount of teams that are 3-0.

My thoughts exactly

Possible but not probable. I didn't expect us to be ranked heading into the Florida game in 2012 after beating NC State and Georgia State, but we were. I know Utah State is not an ACC-level opponent, but they're more highly regarded than most non-power 5 conference teams right now. Arkansas State is certainly more highly regarded than Georgia State was in 2012. There's a handful of match-ups of ranked teams in the first two weeks that could drop the loser out. If there are a lot of "upsets" (heavily based on preseason polls, lol) in other games, it could happen. It would make for better primetime TV ratings if both teams were ranked.
