They were good enough to win at VA Tech. They weren't a vintage Cane squad, but beating them 30-3 is a pretty good accomplishment.

Like I said, they were awesome. Tech completely choking had nothing to do with it.

I'll bet the Peach Bowl Champions always have high expectations for the next season.

Russell is inconsistent and they have a lot of tough games on the road.
If Russell struggles, they just plug Flynn or Perriloux in. I really think people underestimate LSU's depth of talent. I won't mention that Miles at least won the Peach Bowl instead of embarassing the conference by getting trounced by an ACC opponent.

Nobody is arguing that Tennessee didn't stink last year. At least I'm not. I AM arguing that last season was an aberration brought on by discipline problems and a desperate need for a new offensive coordinator. Well, it looks like both problems have been taken care of, so what's stopping us from having a stellar year? Other than CPF ( before you say it)?

Flynn looked good last year but I bet he didn't have 50 attempts last year and Perriloux has 0.

They also lost a lot of starters last year. Their biggest problem is that all of these players have had one more year with Miles.

I just don't think UT has elite level talent right now.

I agree Miles is no Saban, but he's no Gerry Di Nardo either.

You know though, hat, I don't think it always takes elite level talent. Look at the '98 team. But, you could be right. I do know that no team is going to lay down just so we can have a better season.

Have to disagree with you LV, that 98 team had elite level talent.

Other than miles LSU's biggest problem is going to be their o and d lines. they lost alot of lineman just like UT. And im not to confident in LSU's running game this year. both running backs coming off major injuries and a depleted line. i smell trouble for LSU.

I think it's really simple for UT this year. Our D will be fine and our Special teams will be adiquate. The season hinges on how we pass the ball. We know we can run it but if we can't throw with some success it will be another tough season.
I happen to be in the camp that thinks we will throw much better than last year. Admittedly that is not saying muc. But I think we will be a better than average throwing team this year and that will be the main reason we will either win the east or be right there with a chance.

I think LSU looks better on paper than Georgia, and I have a gut feeling that Florida might have a poor year.

I get so sick of the whole last year was an anomaly, perfect storm, blah,blah,blah.... I saw the same brand of football that I have seen the last 6-7 years; uninterested, undisciplined train wreck of a team. The only difference in last year, was that the vols got some really bad breaks, some forced and some self inflicted. Fulmer has won games by "hook-n-crook" for years and gotten much cred for his winning % and last year it all dried up.

georgia, if they have decent qb play, will be a beast. they are well coached and hella intense, especially on defense. people get too caught up in personnel and how a team looks on paper. look at what they did to tn last year and the last three trips to k-ville. physical whipping!!!

Umm, you know within that '6-7 year' window you just mentioned was a share of the SEC regular season crown in what was suppose to be a somewhat down year. Not saying there havent been signs of trouble dating back to 7 years ago, but you cant just group the whole last 7 years together and say they have all been uninterested undisciplined blah blah blah. Its just simply not true as a blanket statement.

UTK does have upper echelon talent. Is it as deep and (most importantly as developed) as Georgia, Florida, and LSU? Well, certainly not as deep as LSU or Florida. The argument could be made its as deep as Georgia right now. Is is as developed? Well last season it was certainly LESS DEVELOPED then every one of those teams. But, I feel like UTK is making up ground in that department. LSU is slipping in developing talent because Miles is inferior to Saban. Georgia always does a good job of developing talent, so we will just have to wait and see how their youth gains experience.

Development (or the lack thereof) cannot be entirely attributed to, or blamed on a coach or coaches. The NCAA restricts what interaction the coaching staff has with individual team members and beyond that the player is on his own. It's up to him to show up in the weight room, it's up to him to eat right and party wisely (if that is even possible) and it's up to him to be the best he can be. Some of us talk like the coaching staff is handed a bunch of mannequins that can be programmed to do whatever they want them to do but it just isn't so. I wouldn't be a college sports coach for any amount of money in the world.

If the upcoming season were played 9 times, I'd say you win the SECE twice and the entire SEC once.

There is no such thing as an SEC regular season championship. The championship game is a regular season game. The winner of that game is the only SEC champion.

The final records of the two teams last year are all the proof I need. Typical Fulmerite. Grasping at flukes to try and prop their Rotund Emperor up.

Hat, you do not have Eastern Division banners in your house?
My personal favorite is when Fulmerites reference the SEC Eastern Division Co-Championship in '03.
