McNabb played a total of 116 minutes in 2 years on the Syracuse basketball team. That's less than 2 minutes per game. Charlie Ward is the only one I can think of who made significant contributions in both football (as a QB) and basketball. And his college days ended about a dozen years ago.
McNabb didn't play because he wasn't any good, not because the football coach had the ability to keep Boeheim from using him. The last thing Haystacks wants to do is get into a tug of war with Pearl. However, our upcoming 7-5 season is going to render this discussion moot.

So we think he's going to be 1 out of about 7 guys in recent history to play both sports (and 7 is stretching it) and make significant contributions in both?

How many guys in recent history have been this highly ranked in both sports and failed to contribute (of those that actually attempted to)?

Adrian McPherson was Mr. Football and Mr. Basketball for the state of Florida. I forget how highly he was rated as a recruit. He looked like he'd be pretty good, but then he got kicked out.

At least have some confidence in our program this year, you nega-logical-vol. :p

Posters from this board could actually hold *some* confidence if you provide positive (the chance of the season being a good or bad one is 60/40 right now. Do you agree?) posts about our upcoming season. It seems many hold respect in what you say, so why not represent it well for once? (Regardless of Fulmer's coaching ability ) In return, it might actually do for the better (of the logic presented on this board, perhaps.). Give these guys (ones which only provide circular logic to the ones who think hold most merit (i.e. insightful, yet intelligent posters)) something to look forward to. :good!:

Note to self: I hope this makes sense when reading while sober. :shhh:

I find it rather difficult to believe that my attitude on the upcoming season has any effect on how anyone else thinks UT will perform.

At least he didn't bring the weak argument that negative message board posts push recruits away from the Hill.

You that's bullcrap, but I think message boards have some affect nowadays. I listened to a very interesting discussion about it on the Jim Rome show a little while ago, fascinating stuff how the community can pressure certain situations.

Pfft. You don't think you got the 'VN Guru' status because of your unique views on things irrelevant to the Vols, do you? :p

I have no idea. I just know it rarely happens. I guess we'll just have to see if this guy can do it.

And my guess is that this guy, by the time a football season is over and his peers have at least a couple of months of practice and games on him, won't be good enough to make a significant contribution on his basketball team. That's a guess. I could be very wrong.

what does the article on volquest say about Pryor?

Not much really.

He'll be narrowing his list of favorites down to 10 sometime soon...Tennessee will be on that list. He likes Cut, and will probably visit UT. He says football is his focus, but he'd like to play basketball as well.

He says he thinks he will cut his list to about 10 schools this week. He says he has no definite visits but would probably visit UT. He talks about Cut developing QBs.

"I am looking for a place where I have a good relationship with the players and the coaches," Pryor said. "My relationship with the quarterback coach is important. Getting a good education is important and I am looking for a place that can help me improve as a player to have a chance at the next level."

Definite takes are Pryor and Manuel. Jefferson and Phillips are possible takes. I don't think anymore are on our radar.

That'd be incredible if we got this guy. We've had a lot of really highly touted qb's that seemed like locks that bolted last second (Simms and Leak come to mind).
