Texas A & M Band

Are they in the military or just pretending to be??

Pretending.....that is always the word used when someone is fishing for a fight. Not saying that is what you are doing, but just here in Texas, most students from our rival school will usually use the word "pretending" when referring to our Cadets.

There is no pretending about it. No one is claiming that they are "IN" the military. They are claiming to be Cadets, as that is what they are (many of whom will join the military very soon). They are not simply ROTC.

They do claim to be a military style marching band, and their uniforms, although cadet uniforms, are modeled after WWII US Army Unis.

So a graduate from A&M is automatically a veteran IF they go to the military?

That has to be wrong.

LadyinOrange,

Did I offend you by referrencing The Citadel or VMI?? I only used those schools as a referrence to help understand our Cadet Corps here at A&M.

Look, Aggie99. You might oughta check that chip on your shoulder at the door. You take offense WAYYY to easy at innocent comments. I am too dumb to be "fishing for a fight". Ok?? It would take someone with a lot more knowledge about A&M/Texas hostilities to use one of their insults to fish for a fight.

No. I am not offended. What I AM is thoroughly CONFUSED.

1. Is A&M a military school? YES or NO??

2. Does 4 years of A&M = 4 years of military status? YES or NO??

That's all I want to know.

Whoa whoa whoa....slow down there.......

I dont have a chip, I was just trying to explain. And I definitely wasnt saying that you had any knowledge of anything that was going on in Texas. That is why I explained what most Aggies would assume you meant by saying "pretending", although I knew that is not how you meant it (that is just how t-sips use the term...ie they use it as a derogartory term)

Anyway, my point is that I know you werent fishing for a fight. Afterall, I am the only Aggie here (right now) trying my best to answer your questions.

Okay. I'm sorry. What I REALLY want to know is ....does 4 years of A&M automatically transfer to 4 years of military SERVICE IF the student DOES go to the military. When you say "their studies go toward the military" what exactly do you mean?

Ok Ok..gotcha.....you just said you would rather not think of the Citadel or VMI, so I thought I made you mad.

Anyway...your questions...

1. Is A&M a military school? YES or NO??
A&M is not 100% Military. We do however have a Cadet Corps (including the Band).

From our beginning (1876) to about 30/40 yrs ago, we were 100% all male military school.

2. Does 4 years of A&M = 4 years of military status? YES or NO??
If you are in the Cadet Corps, you can enter the Military as an Officer, because you will have taken the proper military courses (from members of the military), you will have a college degree, and because of the Cadet Training.

For example, the Cadets all take "Miliatry Science". If you are an Army Cadet, you will take Army Military Science Courses.

The best way to explain would be to say that these count like ROTC courses, so that a Cadet will be an Officer when they join the military after A&M.

But NO....it does not translate into "TIME" spent in the Military.

To add on to what Aggie99 said....

yes, they would eventually retire as an officer, just like anyone else that was an officer.

They do sorta get military time as they go in as 2nd LT, or the equivalent of.

While at A&M if they decide to go the military route, then they sign a contract with the military while in school. The military then pays for school. The summers are spent at Boot Camp, OCS, specialty schools, etc. When graduating from A&M, they are commisioned as officers and are required to be in the military 6 (I think) years to pay back the gov for the education.

Quite a few stay and make a career out of it as well though.

the "swastica" as you are so nicely (not) putting it....is actually one of the most amazing things done by any marching band in the nation....that particular crossover has been analyzed by more then one compute and has been said to be impossible to do bc you have to have 2 people in the same place at the same time.

you are the only group of people that we have ever played that have seen us for the first time that did not have anything good to say...

but hey, whatever, you are entitled to your opinion, and this is your board...

and i had thought y'all were one of the classiest groups we had played this year, right up until the nazi comments i just read.

i know y'all have seen military marching bands before, i've seen them while at a vols game.

but, again, whatever......

I was at the Cottonbowl....I thought your band and fans were awesome to watch....I could not believe how much all the aggie fans got into it....Old men and women all standing arm and arm singing and swaying to their school songs was great....I couldn't have been treated any better by your fans at the Cottonbowl....U guys are a bunch of Classy people....Hope we meet up again.....Good Luck next year....Giggem.....better yet GO VOLS......
