TEXAS A&M blew the largest lead ever

So, there is a thread about "name your realistic coaching options" over at Texags. The list of "realistic" picks?

Dave Aranda (LSU DC)
Justin Fuente X 2 (HC Va Tech)
David Shaw X 2 (HC Stanford)
Bob Stoops x 2 (retired)
Nick Saban (HC Bama)
Mike MacIntyre (HC Colorado)
DJ Durkin x 2 (HC Maryland)
Pat Fitzgerald (HC Northwestern)
Dan Mullen x 2 (HC Miss St)
Scott Frost (HC UCF)
PJ Fleck X 2 (HC Minnesota)
Brent Venables (DC Clemson)
Chad Morris (HC SMU)
Wilson? (Could mean Kevin Wilson, current OC at Ohio St)
Jim Tressel x 2 (retired)
Lee Fedora (currently a High School coach, brother of Larry)
Steve Spurrier (retired)
Les Miles (out of coaching at the moment)
Dennis Allen (DC New Orleans Saints)

No Gruden though, I'm not impressed with their list.

Yea most lists are unimpressive. The short fused fans just grab the newest name that won their firat game and if hired, expect everything fixed in day one.

Haven't read the thread but I can't help but think of all the folks who were certain Sumlin was elite and wanted him here.

There aren't many sure things in the world of college football coaching.

Whenever I see Aranda's name come up on these list, I question whether the person that came up with the list even knows who he is. Although, things can change... most of the stuff I have heard is he wants to be a defensive coordinator, I could see him jumping to the NFL but not sure I see a HC... the players at LSU call him strange. lol Now Canada I could see getting looks at maybe a midwest school if he has a successful year or two.

Although, Coach O might not have been a super great hire... I think its becoming more apparent to TAM fans of why that strategy was taken, and the overall strategy seems like a better approach. Paying someone $10m+ to not be a head coach, while pursuing some type of new messiah who will want $5-6m is not an easy task.

Georgia hired Kirby Smart without having HC experience, generally, I would say that is a huge gamble. Canada will end up at a sizable school in another year or two.

If TAM doesn't do something with that offense, it doesn't matter which defensive coordinator they hire... its crap football.

Funny thing is, I went to bed after both games got to halftime last night. Was positive the A&M game was a lock, but Va Tech's tiny lead was a huge question. Thought real good chance W Va was going to take them down.

Woke up to find just the opposite: Va Tech survived, while A&M somehow gave up a HUGE lead in the 2nd half. Astounding meltdown by the Aggies.

We were sitting there in the 3rd quarter.... I was like UCLA is going to come back... kept watching. :eek:lol: Once the QB got his groove, it was very apparent TAM was going to have a hard time closing it out.

Not surprised by this at all... more surprised it came in September than November.

Heh, yeah, having only watched the first half, I was flabbergasted that anyone thought Rosen was anything but a spoiled man-child. He looked awful.

And the commentators were making excuse after excuse for him. Like one play, just before the half, Rosen ate a sack 8-10 yards behind the LoS, came up limping. And the replay was on screen as the color commentator was saying, "his receivers simply aren't getting open, giving him no one to throw to," while one of the receivers was floating by himself across the middle in a crossing route, the A&M defender trailing 5-10 yards behind. It was actually on the screen as the commentator was saying that. I had to laugh.

But I guess Rosen got hot in the second half, rescuing his Heisman hunt from implosion.

p.s. Strike anyone else as a bit funny that the pre-game show foursome all wore Bruin blue golf shirts? Just seemed a bad idea....

Yeah I knew the buyout was $10m+, I didn't know it was due all up front. :eek:lol: Therein lies why LSU did what they did as far as their hires. These super large salaries and buyouts kind of have to go.

What it looked like to me is kind of like Rocky, the more you hit him... the more mad and determined he got. He definitely has some skills, its his determination that got them going though. He made a few bad plays for sure but man, he kind of willed the win.

It is stupid but If fired today that buyout can be paid with that oil money as quick as the pen signs the check.

Money sometimes can't buy you love. lol

Seriously, I don't see any homerun hires, just like I didn't see any homerun hires last year for head coach when LSU was looking. The problem is the fans sometimes want the easy way out, buy for this or that... sometimes that can work... other times not so much.

If they go after Chip Kelly, I'm going to laugh my ass off. Talk about going from the frying pan to the fire.

Its starting to look like some of that money is looking for a return on their investment.

Would Miles take a chance at the Texas A&M job?

At this stage of his life, that would be a disaster... would he take it... of course.... he has been looking for job for almost a year. Les is a real good guy, he is funny, the kids love him, he was a good coach, but his time is over. imo

If someone wanted to hire him as head of recruiting, player relations, etc. ... hell yea... head coach.... good luck.

iirc that winning TD should have been called back -- he bobbled the ball and his foot was out of bounds when he got control

If he got the same buyout as Sumlin?

You betcha.

I'm a giver. I just want to help. I'm willing to finish the torpedo job that Sumlin started for only 2/3rds of Sumlins buyout. No need to waste extra needless money or add stress on the Mad Hatter.

Sumlin has an 11.5 million dollar buyout and if he is fired, I think Les Miles is the frontrunner to replace Sumlin.
