TEXAS A&M blew the largest lead ever

Nobody can play defense in college football anymore. The games are all score-fests.

What is the buyout on Miles?

It was around $9m+ over 6 years but some of that has been paid over the last 8 months. He has to look in good faith I believe, any amounts will be subtracted from what is owed, at least that is my understanding. I love Les, but that is going to be one epic disaster. imo

More of a disaster than Sumlin?

He had one good year and then everything went to hell.

If you think about it, most of the rules changes over the past 30-40 years have all had to do with preventing injury.

Which usually protected an offensive player with the ball (or in the QB's case, even without the ball). So the rule book has tilted slowly but inexorably further and further in favor of the offense.

So it comes as little surprise today that games are higher-scoring affairs than they were in the classic days of "three yards and a cloud of dust."

My guess probably worse at this stage. Les will be 64 soon, its time and its not like he was ever a great Xs and Os guy. I think he would have a very hard time at TAM. Chip Kelly would be an even bigger disaster than that, eventually. imo Hiring Les as a recruit manager, sure, hire him as a player relations guy, cool, head coach at this stage.... probably a poor decision. And I actually like Les.

As a LSU fan, I would love to see TAM hire Miles or Kelly. lol

Eliminate the clock stopping on 1st downs, and scores will come down a little

I just hope nobody at TAM gets the bright idea to go after someone with serious offensive talent like Mike Norvell or Scott Frost.

Out of curiosity, if Butch fails again this season and gets canned, who'd you think would be a good replacement for Tennessee?

I like Mike Norvell personally. I think with a P5 team he could work wonders. Honestly, Arizona State suffered from not having a good recruiting base, but put him here in the SEC where he can rob talent from GA, FL and keep in State talent?

If he does well this year, I could see him going to a P5 team.

Heck I have no idea. lol

Seriously, I think that was the position LSU was in after letting Les go... who exactly is so much better and how can you do it all with X amount of dollars?

I'm not sure really there is anyone out there, if you look at LSU's last 3 hires... they (Saban, Mile, Orgeron) weren't sexy hires at the time. I think LSU made the right choice with O, Canada and upping Aranda's salary considering all options... that is not saying I think its necessarily going to work out for National Championship or anything.... I am expecting some losses this year.

Aranda working out in 2016 made it a little easier for LSU to handle canning Les and Cameron, not sure Tennessee is in the same position... maybe a few games we will know how the team looks.

The sexy hire might not be the right hire, of course, I don't think Butch has been a bust like some of the Vols fans might think he is.

Haven't read the thread but I can't help but think of all the folks who were certain Sumlin was elite and wanted him here.

There aren't many sure things in the world of college football coaching.

Hmm.

I just read the thread and I think its at least worth mentioning, this post received zero responses.

I was never a "bring-Sumlin-to-Knoxville" guy, but I still think Sumlin is a good coach. First games rarely go as planned. And I was at that UT/UGA game that Chavis gave away back in about 2001. That said, he's def got some adjustments to make. I didn't really have concerns about him until his wife's social media posting. Seems off. I was thinking A&M would be making a mistake to let him go until then. Now I'm not so sure. The thinking doesn't seem to be quite right.

Strong too

Dooley was worse than either, and Butch has been the best of bad choices.
