Texas A&M coming to the SEC????

There's still a lot of bad blood between GT and the SEC. Don't think UGA would want them in anyway, similar to USCjr/Clemson.

Fair enough, I just figured Atlanta market>other viable acc markets. I know for a fact vt can't come. And Clemson is useless IMHO. Then you get into unc and other schools that won't leave purely for bball reasons.

I agree with you completely. It's definitely an interesting situation.

Dare I suggest USF? Sure they lack tradition and are relatively new to the CFB landscape, but they're growing fast, have an already decent team, and their location speaks for itself.

GT and Clemson are no, UGA and SC wouldn't stand for that (I don't think they bring much more to the table than USF anyways). Miami isn't SEC type. The Carolina schools love their basketball. FSU maybe.

He told me that in the spring, the SEC was really focused on working with CBS and ESPN to restructure their TV deal given how the dollars have skyrocketed with the ACC , new Big 12, and Pac-12. He also told me that the SEC felt they could get a new deal by expansion of two teams to get the networks to the table and that a priority was Texas A&M. In fact, my source claims that the SEC has/had Clemson ready to go and they were simply waiting to see if Texas A&M could get their ducks in a row and leave the Big 12. When I asked whether the SEC would still take A&M, he said paraphrasing “are you kidding me, the SEC is drooling over the Aggies. They bring the state of Texas to the table.” But he was clear to say that was the focus in the spring. He says that while the SEC would take A&M and expand in a minute, he questioned whether Texas A&M would want to come to the SEC right now given what he called “the mess that is building here”.

Sounds like the SEC could be interested in Clemson.

While A&M had a "stand alone" offer from the SEC a year ago (based on everything I can gather, that's still the case), the fact of the matter is that it wouldn't take long for the Southeastern Conference to add a 14th team (and perhaps a couple of others) to balance things out. Last summer, the league's primary goal was to convince the Aggies and Oklahoma Sooners to jump ship and join the SEC. If A&M were to make the shocking decision to leave the Big 12 behind, you can rest assured that Slive would soon be on the next plane bound for Norman.

Will A&M trigger the next realignment explosion? | TexAgs

And the SEC could be looking at Oklahoma, according to another article.

A&M has an offer for the SEC. Whenever they are ready, the SEC will gladly take them, from what ive read

An "open" invitation. Really? I would like to read the article if you happen to remember where you read it. Just wonder who else has such an invitation.

We should really make this a discussion in a forum of its own. Get the other SEC fans involved.

Wouldn't mind UNC. No to USF.

I don't know about USF but I agree with this post. 13 teams in the SEC is the most likely option if aTm gets in IMHO. I'd like balance but it would be hard for us to figure out, but the SEC would have to sift through the teams that would want to be here I'd bet.

Yeah, I heard somewhere that Slive would be willing to sit at 13 with A&M to ensure we get the right 14th team.

I've been saying it for a while now but it really is only a matter of time before A&M joins the SEC. The Big 12-2 will not last much longer. Beebe is nothing more than a puppet who listens to Dodd's demands.

What about NC and VA? They're both flagship state universities that are actually in the Southeastern part of the country. With all due rspect to TAMU, it's in the Southwest. If we go West, we could always change names to the Southern Conference. But that'd be another SC in the lexicon. Oops, wrong thread I guess.

You think the name of the Conference matters that much really? The Big East has a Texas school, The Big 10 has 12 members, The Big 12 has 10 members, and the Pac 12 has a school in Colorado. Im pretty sure the SEC doesnt mind messing up the name to get A&M in. Also, there is ZERO chance UNC or VA join the SEC. UNC isnt going anywhere without Duke, NCState, and Wake. And Virginia isnt going anywhere without VTech. IMO, the best bet for the SEC is to add A&M, Mizzou, Florida State, and Georgia Tech.
