Texas A&M coming to the SEC????

I am so excited.. Now my yearly game in Tennessee can include my 2 favorite teams!

Does anyone else find it ridiculous to think just how dang far away college station is from all the sec schools?
Imagine driving to an away game at A&M. NO THANKS!

For debate sake, here is the distance from College Station to each SEC campus:

To LSU: 340 miles - 6.5 hours

To Ark: 503 miles - 8.5 hours

To Miss St: 571 miles - 10 hours

To Ole Miss: 615 miles - 10.5 hours

To Bama: 629 miles - 10.5 hours

To Auburn: 756 miles - 13 hours

To Vandy: 770 miles - 13 hours

To UK: 981 miles - 16.5 hours

To UT: 936 miles - 15.5 hours

To UGA: 896 miles - 15 hours

To South Car: 1,035 miles - 17.5 hours!!!!!!!!!!!!

To Florida: 925 miles - 15.5 hours

SERIOUSLY? How can a team that is over 1,000 miles away from another be in the same conference?
I have no issue with expansion, but to drop some second rate Texas team into our conference with 100+ year rivalries is crazy to me.

DO NOT WANT.

I've got about 20 people in my immediate family that graduated or attended UT. My dad went to UGA, and I have about 10 relatives from UGA.

My grandfather has his face on a plaque in the childrens hospital just off cumberland. The Oliver William Hill, Jr., M.D., Pediatric Neurology Laboratory.

We have family tickets on the 50 yard line at Neyland that have been in the family for 3 generations. I usually go to the vandy or Kentucky game over thanksgiving break.

I can cheer for the vols as much as I want.

It's all about the $$$ as far as the SEC is concerned.

And honestly I would have thought teams would fly to long away games.

Personally, I couldn't care either way if TAM joins or not.

really? that is an average of under 650 miles per school so one school being over 1000 miles away isn't a huge difference these days in so called "super conference" days. it's almost 1500 miles from the university of miami to boston college, yet they are in the same conference, for the second time. its also over 1000 miles from miami to maryland so it does exist.

What the hell does any of that crap have to do with the SEC? Any school wanting into the SEC is just disgruntled with their situation and wants a cut of the BCS pie the SEC gets.

Very much against it but this is the word:

Texas A&M will become a member of the SEC in 2012. There will be uneven divisions for one season, with the West having 7 teams and the East having 6.

West teams will play a six team round-robin, and two teams from the East (permanent and Class III, so we would play Kentucky and at South Carolina).
The East teams will play a five team round robin, and two teams from the West. The SEC will apply for an exemption for one season so that the East teams can play 11 games, but they will be able to schedule teams if they can find them.

Beginning in 2013, it seems like the buzz is another East team will be added. The SEC will stop at 14. The teams that seem to be generating the most buzz are the usual suspects, Virginia Tech, Florida State and Clemson. Maryland and NC State were mentioned, but the SEC presidents are seemingly wanted to go to 14, and that means keeping geography a factor. Those five teams are on the radar.

The SEC will go to a 9 game schedule in 2013. Six game round robin in division, one permanent cross division and two rotators. There might be a reset of permanents and the rotation cycle

That makes sense Billy. 9 conference games with 1 permanent division conference rival seems to be the general consensus if the league expands to 14. And that looks very likely now.

But this is what its coming down to anyway. 16 school super conferences. Its gonna get harder for everyone considering the competion that may be coming into the SEC. But I think it will be four divisions and then playoffs. SEC wants to be first with this.

By the way, pac 12 is suggesting ou, okie st, ku, and mu to form the pac 16. SEC has to move quick to get what they want, I would think.

without texas i can't see the pac-12 beign interested in KU or ttech. maybe just oklahoma and oklahoma state
