The Southeastern Conference, reportedly keen on adding Texas A&M amid the onrush of a Big 12 shakeup, would be just as interested in luring Texas and Oklahoma but doesn't see either as a realistic option, sources with knowledge of the SEC's maneuverings have told ESPN and ESPN.com.

An SEC athletic director told ESPN.com's Mark Schlabach that the SEC's first choice would be adding the Longhorns, but might consider taking Texas A&M because it expands the league's footprint into the Dallas and Houston TV markets.

Given the fact that Texas A&M may be the only Big 12 school the SEC could add, the league was prepared to make the move even if Texas and Oklahoma went elsewhere.

"We've got to be diligent in evaluating this," another SEC athletic director told ESPN.com's Schlabach. "We can't just add teams who are going to split the pie without adding anything substantial to the pie."

Adding the Aggies would provide SEC West member Arkansas with a natural rival, which the Razorbacks have lacked since joining the league in 1992 from the Southwest Conference.

Looking beyond the Big 12 for expansion, specifically to the ACC for schools such as Georgia Tech, Clemson, Florida State or Miami, was not in the SEC's plans, sources told ESPN.

The sources saw no way the SEC would raid the ACC and added serious doubt that Virginia Tech could be pried away from Virginia.

The idea the SEC would go after Kansas was also dismissed, though a KU source said that would be a preference for the Jayhawks.

Big 12 sources continued to suggest to ESPN on Saturday that the addition of five more Big 12 teams to the Pac-10 is the most likely scenario after Colorado's move. The exodus could begin as early as Tuesday, but nothing has been finalized.

A source with knowledge of Oklahoma's future told ESPN on Saturday that Oklahoma had not committed to the Pac-10, and Texas athletic director DeLoss Dodds said Saturday that the Longhorns were still considering "all options."

Oklahoma was still mulling several options Saturday and discussions within the Sooners program were ongoing, a source told ESPN. One plan still on the table was to keep the 10 remaining Big 12 schools together and reposition the conference for the future.

A source familiar with the Sooners said there was compelling information the Big 12 would still be very strong. The Big 12 could remain at 10 or add teams, which the source said would be a choice to be made later and carefully reviewed.

Well every conference's target is the 'Horns, I think Slive knows they won't come. So yes I believe that Texas A&M is our first priority in expanding.

lets take A&M Missouri with georgia tech and Clemson. that brings 2 schools that SEC schools already have rivals with. it secures a old time SEC school thats home happens to be where our championship game is played. the A&M and Missouri additions reach some heavily populated areas for tv and are decent at the big 2 sports.

If we are going after Texas A&M (and message board chatter says that Slive is doing that today), then who else?

If we raid the ACC we will take either Miami, Florida State, or Virginia Tech.

I believe Miami, Florida State, or Virginia Tech will be apart of the expansion. Miami and Florida State being the teams preferred of course.

I think Kansas and Texas A&M would be interesting additions to the SEC West if two teams could be found to balance it with the SEC East.

exactly. sometimes i wonder if even georgia gets excited or if its just another game they have to play before their bowl game

it is a huge rivalry in that state and I would love to see UT play them

I honestly think I'd rather see Memphis State get an invite before I would Georgia Tech.

and give even Vandy a guaranteed conf win every year? Absolutely not

According to the report, I dont believe Kansas will be an option. Besides the MWC has expressed strong interest in adding both Kansas and Missouri.

He'll no. Memphis would just leech off of UT. And despite its relatively large size as a city, Memphis is not a large tv market nor does it have a large fanbase.

Trust me, I'm not promoting Memphis State to be a target of the conference in any way, shape, form, or fashion. I was just voicing how little I want Ga Tech to get an invite.

Slive is in College Station today, but I don't think he wanted TU. They would try and bully their was around the SEC. The ESPN article sounds like BS. ESPN doesn't have much credit as they have reported many, many things that have been false. Remember Muschamp was going to be the new head coach at UT. I think he may still go after OU or OK St. though.

Look at their B-ball stats for attendance, they do have a fan base, just not in football because they suck and play in a stadium that was outdated in 1975.

Just because they can sell out some basketball games doesn't mean they have a large fanbase that stretches beyond West Memphis, AR or Olive Branch, MS. The SEC doesn't need help in either West Tennessee, Arkansas or Mississippi.

I don't think the SEC should go to 14 teams unless the Big 10 and ACC go to 14 teams. Would TN still play AL every year since there not in the same division?

I don't see why not. Two seven team divisions would still leave the eighth conference game for a rival.

Let me clarify, I don't want Memphis at all, hate them.
