Texas A&M is not the SEC's first choice

Just because they can sell out some basketball games doesn't mean they have a large fanbase that stretches beyond West Memphis, AR or Olive Branch, MS. The SEC doesn't need help in either West Tennessee, Arkansas or Mississippi.

And we need help in Atlanta?

An SEC athletic director told ESPN.com's Mark Schlabach that the SEC's first choice would be adding the Longhorns, but might consider taking Texas A&M because it expands the league's footprint into the Dallas and Houston TV markets.

Looking beyond the Big 12 for expansion, specifically to the ACC for schools such as Georgia Tech, Clemson, Florida State or Miami, was not in the SEC's plans, sources told ESPN.

These quotes are very important, IMO. :hi:

I know those of you who live back East would like to add ACC teams, but it ain't happening! It's about the TV money from new regional markets, OK? It's clear that adding these East coast teams adds no new money to the SEC.

If the SEC expands, it will be west into Texas (and Oklahoma would be nice).

Who (other than Georgia) gets excited about a rivalry with Georgia Tech?

Um UT and GT played almost every year after GT left the ACC, I'd say that was a rivalry. GT and Auburn could revive their rivalry, which GT won the last two times they played in the 21st century. GT and UGA obviously, and frees up a game for both teams out of conference. Bama is the reason GT left the ACC, but they were scheduled to play each other soon until it was canceled for some reason. Vandy and GT have played the past year, and the year after this year, and MSU and GT have played the past two seasons.

Exactly, the only two eastern teams that bring in new markets are Maryland and Virginia Tech.

it is a huge rivalry in that state and I would love to see UT play them

and give even Vandy a guaranteed conf win every year? Absolutely not

+1, they were a part of the SEC, before the whole debacle with Bama that gave them the last shove to leave. I prefer them over USCe any day (who has been absolutely irrelevant in the SEC since they joined).

I believe Miami, Florida State, or Virginia Tech will be apart of the expansion. Miami and Florida State being the teams preferred of course.

If it (the SEC) has been in talks with them them then its been awfully quiet about it because I've seen very little to substantiate all the chatboard rumors.

And the ACC currently remains intact, with no schools threatening to leave.

I doubt they're in talks as of now because they're waiting to see what transpires with TX and OU. If they head to the pac-10 as expected, then I believe they will raid the ACC.

Mike Slive is College Station today. Don't expect Texas but maybe OU and OK. St. Also, I think I heard Stanford maybe trying to block the expansion in some form, so who knows. But expect A&M is the SEC.

You were referencing basketball and the tournament, I was simply stating they made it. I guarantee you they're better at basketball than any of the teams in the west, sigh.

I've not referenced basketball one time in this thread.

OU could be an option and I would love to have them join, but from what I have heard they're following Texas wherever they decide to go.

But I think the overwhelming majority of OU fans is PO'd at the administration for wanting to follow TU. I wouldn't be surprised to see OU and OK St, A&M, and Mizzou in the SEC. I think Kansas is headed to the Pac whatever in place of A&M.

A source with knowledge
Actually the sources haven't been diong too good over the last 2 or 3 days.

Why settle for A&M? FSU looks like a no brainer.

Where is this pervasive feeling of ou to the sec coming from? The reports are almost unanimously saying the PAC 10 is where they are headed. A&m is the only big xii school the sec has a realistic chance of grabbing at this point.

I am not saying they are coming, I am saying since A&M is 99.999% coming to the SEC and Slive is in College Station for some reason (sarcasm), he is gonna try to get OU and OK St. The people of Oklahoma are pissed about going to the pac 10. There may be a chance he can convince them to come. Otherwise they are just TU's biotches. They are see the AD saying and are furious. I haven't gone to their boards but if you do I am sure you will see some people are mad. They may or may not, but for all we give Slive, he is a good business man. He may do it, who knows, but he is trying I can tell you that.

I've been on A&M boards for a while today....it's CRAZY! Slive is definitely there, they just put up some premium content regarding the visit. The A&M fans want to come to the SEC, sadly that's probably not a main consideration. Fans from every SEC school are welcoming them with open arms...needless to say, not too many PAC fans there.
