Here's what is actually in the Texas election bills Democrats keep comparing to Jim Crow

Under Senate Bill 1's provisions, a ban would be implemented on drive-thru voting or casting a ballot from inside a vehicle unless participating in curbside voting due to a disability. A ban would also be placed on overnight voting, requiring polls to be open a minimum of nine hours from between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m.

Election officials would also be required to install a video surveillance system that records vote-counting activities, with a livestream made available to the public in counties with 100,000 residents or more. Those in large counties would also be required to install tracking software to monitor "all input and activity" on electronic devices used to count votes. Beginning January 1, 2024, equipment that does not disable or remove any wireless connectivity capability would be prohibited from use in tabulating votes.

SB 1 would also allow partisan poll watchers to observe election activity inside polling places and vote-counting centers as well as during curbside voting that takes place inside a vehicle. It would also make it a crime to deny access to a poll watcher.

In addition, voters would be required to include a driver's license number or the last four digits of a Social Security number on a vote-by-mail application and the envelope containing their ballot. Individuals who help voters cast their ballot, due to language or physical needs, must fill out a document listing their name, address, relationship to the voter, and whether they're being paid by a candidate or political committee. Those who drive three or more people to the polls would also be required to fill out a similar form unless all vehicle occupants are family members.

The secretary of state will also be required to work with the Department of Public Safety to provide data on a monthly basis from the existing statewide computerized voter registration list to be used for verification of citizenship status on voter registration applications.

What's in House Bill 3?

House Bill 3 includes many of the same provisions as SB 1. In addition, it would make it a crime for public officials to offer or send vote-by-mail applications to those who have not requested one.

If this is an accurate representation of what is in the bill what exactly are the Democrats opposed to?

Oh I think at one time they were for the most part. Once congress became a full time job it went out the window.
The founders envisioned a system in which capable citizens would temporarily put their real lives on hold to serve the public by holding office for a limited time and then return to their regular lives. It was NEVER meant to be a lifetime calling. Washington himself wanted to emulate the Roman General Cincinnatus (for whom the city is named). Like Cinncinatus, Washington defeated his enemies, served a brief term, and returned to his farm, permanently retired from politics. Joe Biden would melt like the Wicked Witch of the West taking a shower if you suggested he do that 😂
Term limits need to be amended into the constitution for ALL offices, just like they are for the President. I envision a point system where an individual is granted like 50 lifetime „office points“. Each office held „costs“ a certain number of points. Maybe a 2 year House term counts 4 points, a six year Senate term counts 10 and the Presidency 25 points. Once your points are all used up. You Are retired and constitutionally ineligible for any further federal office.

I'm enjoying how the Dem talking point now is that everything is "the worst assault on Democracy since the Civil War". 1/6 got that label and now these innocuous voting bills are getting the label.

what's next? Joe only got one scoop - it's the worst assault on Democracy since...

And nobody in the MSM is calling them on their BS.

You know, that whole "worst assault on democracy since the Civil War" thing makes absolutely zero sense. Technically, the Civil War was a Republic on Republic fight (or a democracy versus a democracy if you will)

But honestly, only one of the two actually "assaulted" democracy in a significant way...

An attack on our democracy! The left wing outrage is will be off the charts!!!!!!!
The only thing saving America is that they have dialed the outrage Meter up to 11 on EVERYTHING so often that the general public just tunes them out. The only people who care as the trained seal bluechecks on Twitter. America will finally turn the corner for the better once corporate, entertainment, sports, and academics wake up and realize that tje Twitter outrage brigade bears very little resemblance to the real populace.

Fugitives' big day out: Runaway Texas Dems take their kids to Meet Elizabeth Warren and Senators at the Capitol on second day On The Run from GOP voting rights bill and Greg Abbott

  • Runaway Texas Democrats met with Sen. Elizabeth Warren on Wednesday
  • At least one lawmaker brought to the Capitol her young daughter, who at one point sat on the ground to look at a picture book with a puppy on the cover
  • A grade school-aged son of one of the representatives was pictured exiting the $200-per-night Washington Plaza Hotel with the group of lawmakers on Tuesday
  • It is unclear how many children came along for the ride with their lawmaker parents or if they will also remain in Washington for that full time
During Texas Democratic lawmakers' second day in Washington D.C., the group met with Senator Elizabeth Warren at the Capitol – and some towed their children along with them.

At least two Texas House members brought their children with them when fleeing Austin to the nation's capital this week.

While none of the lawmakers were wearing face coverings, the young girl was. The FDA has not approved emergency use for the vaccine for children under 12-years-old.

On Tuesday morning, while leaving Washington Plaza Hotel for a press conference on Capitol Hill, a representative was seen walking hand-in-hand with her masked-up grade school-age son.

The lawmakers say they are prepared to stay in D.C. until the end of the 30-day special session called by Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott, which still has 26 days remaining.

Trey Martinez Fischer, one of the runaway Democratic representatives, said Tuesday that Texas Democrats, through campaign funds and other private fundraising efforts, are fully funding paying for the trip.

The group insists no taxpayer money has been spent on the $100,000 to charter two private jets to get from Austin to D.C. or the several thousand dollars per night to stay at the hotel.

Also on Tuesday, several of the lawmakers said they are not worried about threats that they will be arrested once stepping foot back in Texas.

Dems don't want anything that tracks voters or limits access - stuff like residency and citizenship as a requirement for voting and registration, getting back in line for seconds, voting for dead relatives, partying in line, not allowing illegals to vote from their holding cells - that kind of thing. They probably want dem picket lines and protests by the new new black panthers to ward off republican votes, too. Kinda like the things Bama would do with the football program if nobody set any rules at all.
