Texas Longhorn TV Network

That is flat out ridiculous. They already get more money than their conference partners in the league's TV deal, and then they get to negotiate a contract that they don't split with anyone? This will be the last TV contract the Big 12(10) ever sees.

Texas Longhorn TV Network: 20 Years, $300 Million With ESPN - Barbecue Sauce - SB Nation Kansas City

Texas will be getting $15 Million per year from ESPN in addition to their $15-20 Million from the Big 12. The Band-Aid that is the current Big 12 conference won't last very long, imo.

And signing their own TV deal kills any chance of their ever going to the Big 10 or Pac-10 - as they don't allow individual members to do so.

The SEC does, but the four Texas schools will go independent before joining the SEC, while keeping some routine scheduling amongst themselves (i.e. USC and ND) - before they'd join the SEC.

In fact, Texas would terminate their athletic department before joining the SEC. Not for academics or logistics, but because they'd quickly be placed right where they belong - lower/middle of the pack.

Oh, and they're unabashed cowards. That too.

I'd think that the other 3 Texas schools would benefit from this somehow, too.

I'd really love to hear the Oklahoma and OK State AD's reaction to it. Wouldn't be PG, for sure.

Yeah, Texas has imploded another league.

The NY Times piece indicates that this is a University of Texas deal, not a state of Texas deal.

TAMU was closer to joining the SEC this year than a lot of people realize. If they are getting jobbed by Texas to this level, they'll cut ties.

I'm not sure what A&M, TT, etc. gain by going independent seeing how they don't have their own TV contracts.

A&M (and possibly others) will be in the SEC by 2014.

And yet the only thing I thought about when I saw this thread was, "Too bad they didn't start this last year. That way, the garbage they put on the field could be seen by millions of people on a weekly basis." Yeah, our Vols weren't much better but damn I loathe Texas.

If they'd negotiated this last year while coming off of a 1-loss BCS-championship-game-appearance season, the $15 million/year might have been $18 million/year.

1907 compared to 1949, but let's move on. It's off the topic.

can't wait to bring in aTm and hopefully FSU in the east.. tt, baylor, okie state can go fly a kite, don't want them.

Sooners would be alright too, but not as geographically relevant as the others. If we went all the way to 16 my choices would be aTm, FSU, Sooners, Hokies.. in order.

TexAgs=Melt down.

We knew it was coming and those that didn't were kidding themselves. After thumbing through the wording it's clear that this is great for t.u.

That being said, it only further fuels the disdain and anger directed towards them. The next move won't be aTm's though. Someone from the North will jump ship for a smaller conference and the dominoes will start to fall.

It's going to be a long off season, but like I said, see you soon.

Saw em off.

people knew this was coming for a while now.

that's why many analysts, when talking about all the realignment stuff, brought up the idea of texas becoming an independent like notre dame shortly down the road (which is their reasoning, and why they hope this pans out well)

alot of people knew a "longhorn network" was already in the works

Tx held Mizzou, KU, KState and Iowa State hostage last year by threatening to dissolve the big 12 by leaving for the pac 10. Those schools are going to take what they can get as long as TX stays in the big 12. The big 12 is working on a tv deal with foxsports. I am not disputing that A&M won't be happy and may bolt, but the rest of the league needs TX....good article on this from the KC Star. Should be interesting to see the fall out from this...if there is anything.

My money would be on Kansas looking elsewhere hard. That'll be the last straw.

Baylor and the rest of the children in the South should be looking also. The adults are headed for divorce.

No one from the Big 12 north is leaving for a smaller conference unless the bottom falls out. If anything they would go to the Big east or ACC.
