If Notre Dame offers a scholarship, McHaney said he would listen. And don’t forget the success Notre Dame has had in the mid-state area, especially among private school prospects.
“I’d love for him to go to Notre Dame,” Bullard said. “I think it would be a good situation for him. He’d really like it and we’d get to continue to play ball together.”
For now, McHaney has enough schools to consider, including the in-state Vols.
Here is ESPN's take on McHaney:
"There does not seem to be any secret formula to McHaney's game. Whatever is in his way he tries to move out of his way by going through it. Whether on offense or defense he is a pretty physical kid that kind of just plows ahead. He looks like he may be best suited as a blocking tight end at the college level. He has a good frame, but will need to add bulk as he gets into the college ranks. He plays as an in-line blocker and with some development and added size could be a productive blocker. He makes solid initial contact. When he stays low and moves his feet he can create push off the ball in the run game. Will flash the ability to use his hands, but needs to improve his hand placement as he will attack with his elbows out. Would like see him use his hands more on offense like he does on defense. Would like to see him generate more power from his hips and he needs to be sure to stay off his toes. He can step and wash a defender down. Needs to keep improving on getting around and into position when trying to seal a defender on the edge. McHaney has some good size potential and you like that he will mix it up some. Needs to keep working on the little things and we would not be surprised to see him land at defensive end in college, but he could be a solid blocking tight end."
