why do you think we dropped the second bomb? it was more showing the ruskies hey look what weve got then hey japan bow down

I believe this is the reason why we dropped the first bomb.

Documents tell us that the Japanese gov't was willing to negotiate without the authority of the emporer two weeks before the bomb was dropped.

Leads me to think that McCain wants to chest-beat about the role of the US in world affairs. Honestly... Obama nailed it.
I agree we shouldn't be involved with everything. I'm okay with the military uncovering every rock in the middle east if we're finding terrorists. I'm not big on trying to force a bunch of extremists into democracy.

The Pacific was generally a US effort and we kicked rear end.

Just sayin that the Russians took the brunt of the war in Europe.

right because they didnt have to worry about the japanese on their back porch, we were givin them rice eatin SOB's more then they could handle, we took their toy naval fleet and ripped it apart.

Being proud of and being arrogant about are two totally different things.

Honestly, some of the comments I received by pro-military people when I was in my Blues embarrassed me a little. Nationalism is a very thin line and more often than not... dangerous to traverse.
I'm not buying it. Everywhere I've been, people talk up their country a lot, and although the opinion of the US isn't as low as I would have thought, they still get the feeling the US is somehow more arrogant.

I've heard that. I'm not entirely sure about it, but I guess I can't really tell. They may have wanted to stop fighting, but I don't think they would have been willing to just give everything up.

i couldn't care less if the rest of the world hates this attitude. you want us to lie?

Basically, it's like this:

Currently, the US is seen as the [worlds] school jock/bully. Constantly lambastes all the "wussy" kids and brags about what he has accomplished. That's pure arrogance and, well, no one likes that. Even among the other players on the football team he's arrogant. Always talks about how many TDs he threw and yards he rushed for. Does nothing but deride the accomplishments and contributions of others on the team.

It's not what he is. It's the way he sees himself and acts towards others.

Since WWII, when has this not been the prevailing thought?

That's not really fair to say in my experience. Some people say that, but most people not involved in the situation will just leave it at "Bush is an idiot." It doesn't seem like it's really as big of a deal to most people. They think Americans are ignorant and arrogant, but I don't see how we're much worse than everyone else.

there were tough times, and it was a hard fought victory, but it is unheard of for a country to fight such a major war on two theaters and be such a major reason for victory in both. Not to mention that this was really the first total war with modern technology. Even in WW1 we were fighting using traditional methods, (instead of marching in formations straight at each other we were leaping trenches)

if it wasnt for the D-Day invasion, and the push into the european front, Hitler would have never went into such a frenzy of trying to shift troops around. This made it easier for the ruskies to move in on Berlin from the east, and us move in from the west. The russians would have had to face a more solid german resistance.

Bush did a lot to disenfranchise the rest of the world from us. Being reactionary and "if you don't like us suck it" is incredibly arrogant and serves no purpose but further ostracizing of the US from being a respected world leader.

A little humility from some US citizens and politicians would go a long way. Considering the world blames the US for the market crash and starting an illegal war in Iraq... well... we might need to be a little more closed lips about it.

World cooperation is a requirement to ensure the further advancement of not only the US but the world as a whole... economically, scientifically, etc.

I'll disagree, D-Day helped but the outcome would have been no different. The Russian steam roller was going to eat up every thing in its path regardless of what we did.

Who doesn't have that attitude? Seemingly everyone thinks their country is awesome.

What's a legal war? As I said, I'm okay with leaving. I don't care if everything gets worse for Iraq or if people are upset we didn't finish the job. As long as we eliminate terrorists, I'm okay with psychopaths burning pictures of Uncle Sam.

World cooperation is a requirement to ensure the further advancement of not only the US but the world as a whole... economically, scientifically, etc.
I'm for world cooperation. I'm not for having a less powerful military and I'm not going to deny how great I think the United States is.

why does eurpoe have the right to say what is a legal and what is not a legal war? they were completely cool with us going into Kosovo, and dealing with Malosavich, but had a problem with us going in and stopping what Saddam was doing with the Kurds? It was the same thing.

Second off, why should we stay silent and "take it like a little puppy" while the other folks mouth off?

Third, WE are the greatest country in the world, when the spit hits the fan, who does the world turn to? When some tragedy happens in the world, who gives the most money and the most help? We do, so you naysayers can move out if you dont think we are the best, and rightfully so. I could careless what some cheese eating surrender monkey frenchman has to say about the US.
