That's how you beat Gonzaga...

What's the point? Are you arguing that WVU had a better season than UT because they were a lower seed in the NCAA tournament?
No, I'm making a point anyone with an IQ above room temperature can grasp. Inheriting a team that missed the NCAA Tournament all together the previous season and lost its leading scorer and leading that group to the brink of the Elite Eight=Solid job. Taking a number 2 seed that returned every siginificant player from the season before and added Tyler Smith and getting completely undressed in the Sweet 16=Not that impressive.

Pipe down the vitrol and just say "I love Bobby Huggins". We all get it.

No need in dipping into the weeds. If a coach's measure is defined by seedings and which round they are bounced, what's the highest seed Huggins entered the NCAA tournament with? And what round did he get bounced that year?

Huggie is a fine coach. Is he better than Pearl? Maybe, but he hasn't shown it yet.

Huggins took over a program on probation and was in the Final Four in his second season. Bruce Pearl has nothing on his flimsy resume that comes within screaming distance of that.

Of course, this time last year there were people on this board who tried to say Pearl was in the class with Bill Self. Homers are funny.

Looking at Huggins resume, that final four looks more like an outlier - an outlier from 17 years ago.

Finally, back to bashing the OP. Self got himself off the bridesmaid's list thanks to the collapse of Memphis St.

I'm a huge Pearl fan and even I'll admit that the last part is comical.

Which saved the imbeciles who think Pearl is in Cal's class from taking a mortally wounding shot in the face. Even if Kansas loses that game, it would not change the fact that Self had taken three different schools, one of them being Tulsa, further in the NCAA Tournament than Pearl has taken a single team.

If having been to four Elite Eights puts you on the "Bridesmaid's List," what list do you get on for never advancing past the round of 16?

A seat at the singles table at the reception.

I'm a fan of both Pearl and Cal. Neither have the hardware Self picked up last season.

Ask any coach. The Final Four is the Holy Grail. Once you get there, it becomes a crapshoot. Coaches who have never been to the Final Four better have an exceptional and lengthy body of work before claiming to be among the best in the profession. Pearl's resume is neither exceptional nor lengthy. Until he accomplishes something more than a Sweet 16, he's just the poor man's Tom Penders.

Pearl doesn't have the head of hair to be even in the same sentence with Penders.

Pearl coached teams show no defense and he's yet to take a team past the Sweet 16. There's plenty of coaches who've accomplished more.

No, you didn't even graze answering the question.

What makes a current comparisson of Huggins and Pearl so "comical" in your mind?

I understand that. Coach Huggins lone final four appearance was 17 years ago. When does that become an insignificant event when looking at his current resume?

And for the record, I wouldn't put Pearl in a category of "best in the profession". He has been a shot of adrenaline for UT hoops and he has benefited greatly from dominating a weak conference since his arrival.

Totally disagree with this statement. In his first year, there were two SEC teams in the final four, for which UT was a No.2 seed. His second year, three SEC teams made it to the Sweet 16 with two going to the final eight and one winning the title.

We could argue all day whether or not the SEC is weak this year. One of our weaker teams beat 2 top 15 teams by 20 in their OOC. Tough call, but nevertheless, the SEC ISN'T a weak conference. Simply put, you're wrong on this one

By Big 6 standards, the SEC was weak last year and is weaker this year. But, the SEC was a very strong league for Pearl's first two years here.

not so much. UF was good for 2 years only and LSU was good for 1. Otherwise the league has been down, period.
