I know some black folks in my town who are my age or older that lived under segregation, and they say things were okay with them for the most part. They liked their all black school. Looks like some of the Georgia blacks think the same. In before, white guilters Huff and Dink call me a liar.Only black reporters allowed in Georgia mayoral race event
So I guess we're going back to the segregation era now?
Absolutely, he can cast whoever he wants. As long as it isn't tax payer funded, let it rip. If the movie is a hit great, if it flops great.Serious question, I'm interested in where you stand, do you think it's ok for the black director to not consider a white person for that role? How do you think if the roles were reversed the white director would be treated for those comments? Would he deserve it?
I agree with the spirit of your post but I can't name anyone more valuable to hollywood in the last 20 years than Will Smith, Samuel L., and Denzel. In fact, I can't think of a white actor's movie that I would watch simply by actor name alone.....Will and Denzel on the other hand.....I think it's okay for any director to cast whomever they choose if it feels right per their vision for the film. It may have not been the wisest of answers in that interview but Peele's work is designed to break the Hollywood mold which is, undoubtedly, centered around featured actors who are almost always white. They even cast white folks as actual people who weren't white.
So, in that context, it would look a little ridiculous from a statistical standpoint if a white director claimed that he was only interested in casting white people. Would he catch flak for being racist? Sure. Would it be a racist statement? Technically, no. That is a symptom of our fanatically sympathetic society, unfortunately.
Racism is often thrown at people as a label, and it's overused, but the sheer number of white folks who wear the accusations as a badge of honor (as evidenced in this thread) is just as dumb/disgusting. Hope this answers your questions.

So, apparently a Thomas Jefferson statue is oppressing certain snowflake Hofstra students.

No, I am stating as "known name". However, I'm not a movie buff so I tend to watch what I like. But like I said, skin color doesn't make that much difference to me movie wise from a casting standpoint. Some actors I won't watch period, don't care how good it is. Some I will watch even though the movie sucks (unless I just can't stomach the movie). Still of the opine that a director can cast who he wants as long as taxpayer money isn't making the movie.Plenty of actors since 2000 who have been lead in higher grossing movies than those three, assuming that's how you measure it.

South Africa is calling your name.“Whiteness remains to be the biggest threat to our survival and continues to permeate every single facet of our lives, from the institutions we must navigate to interactions with our white counterparts. I am dealing with whiteness every time I leave the comfort of home,” he wrote in the essay.
“I’m in defense mode all the time and it’s exhausting. The result is extended periods of time where I am filled with nothing but rage, where it feels like I am always on the brink of crying, where I feel so vulnerable that I cannot handle seeing people who do not look like me, where even spending time with the white people that I call my friends induces racial anxiety.”

I read that and smiled.“Whiteness remains to be the biggest threat to our survival and continues to permeate every single facet of our lives, from the institutions we must navigate to interactions with our white counterparts.
