The #1 thing holding our program back is...

I agree! It is the fans who are pushing the program forever forward. Whenever the Vols lose, we cry out for the coaches' heads... and when we win we give the program the finances it needs to survive. Whenever we are without a coach, we give our collective opinions as to who we think would best lead our program. So, I agree with you utvolphj, our fan base is not UT's problem... it is actually the base for every athletic program at the university.

Our VN members should also realize that our forum is made up of very mature members (I'm on the ripe side of 60), very immature members (some may be 14-year-old starry-eyed girls, and we have everything in between. That makes our part of the fan base special - we can voice our opinion, read the opinions of others, agree, or agree to disagree. And we can collectively get together on gameday and yell, "GO VOLS!!!" till out voices give out.

No, the VN is not the problem. The problem is just that we are human, and we sometimes get a bit impatient. Let's just let Dave Hart do his job. If we do not like his hire, yell at him, not at each other... because we are V-F-L.

:salute: bravo!

Let's think back to when the almighty Nick Saban took over Bama in 2007. He went 6-6 in the regular season with a home loss to ULM. Why? Because he didn't have enought great players.

Excuse my typo (should have been enough). I'm not saying that a great coach doesn't matter because I think Dooley could lose with Bama's current roster. I'm just saying that it takes a great coach, great recruiting AND the right personnel to win consistently.

Took him 1 year to get them.. Half of that next class came right in and played. Off they went... It could happen here.. It would take the right guy though...

... Our jack wagon fan base.

We have too many fanatics with unreasonable demands and unrealistic expectations for our program, players and coaches.

Vol Nation needs to stop behaving like 14 year old girls. What is happening right now is only one moment in time. It will not always be this way. Just because Johnny G said he didn't want to take us to the prom doesn't mean we can't go. We've got a lot of eligible suitors who would love to take us.

Stop trashing our players. Tyler Bray is among the best QBs in the nation yet most of you fail to appreciate him. The kid is among the top QBs in UT history. We've got many fine young men who chose us over the 100+ division 1 schools out there. Let's get behind them so they don't regret that choice. Most importantly, we expect them to do their jobs on the field, they should reasonably expect uss to do ours. Fans support teams. They lift spirits. They offer encouragement. Right now we're as poor a fan base as Dooley proved a coach.

Just another finger pointer. Passionate fans are the goal of every successful college program. You might want to be a little bit more analytical before criticizing the fan base.

I'm sorry man fans don't hold a program back. We aren't in the front office, we aren't on the practice field, game field, not the sideline, nor are we out recruiting.

What a joke. Like an above post stated. Fans are not the ones who hire and fire coaches. Is it the fans fault DD was a 5-7 Head coach??? Anyone who has a brain in their head, can't be pleased with our current situation, nor could they be pleased with our former coach DD. I'm guessing you were still on the wagon for DD, and you think he just needed more time....... Go back to the circus clown!!!!

He's still mad at the fans for firing Fulmer. ...or for hiring Hamilton.

Oddly enough, if you want to be mad about Hamilton.

You should really be mad at Fulmer.

This is pure idiotic trash.

All fan bases have crazy people... We, the followers of Volnation, just have a lot more contact with the crazy Vol fans.

Regarding the fan base I would agree that we should be more encouraging of coaches and players. I think we have the opportunity everyday to set the standard higher and I think that if we were more supportive and encourgaing that we could see a real difference over time.

To me, the biggest thing that is holding the program back is found in the upper leadership: Cheek, Martin, and Hart. I think Hart has a great vision for where the athletics program should go. I really like Hart and what he brings to the University. I want to believe that Cheek is a team player. I want to believe that Ms Martin is a team player. However, there appears to be a lack of unity on Hart's vision and Hart is the man over the athletic department. I could be wrong, but after Hart's press conference and after reading some information from someone who posts here that works within the AD, it seems like the AD has not been given the resources or academic support that we once enjoyed. For example - athletic study hall, the coaches involvement with players who are struggling with grades, our athletic department reserve....

To me those are the areas that are holding us back - but the good news is that these things can be worked through. I think the fan base supporting Hart will send a pretty loud message.

I dont think we can find improvement through shame or condencention of the fan base or anyone for that matter

The problem I have is the people that say, "Hart should be fired the way he has handled this hiring process"... Last time I checked it didn't "officially" start until after the Vandy game and no one even knows what his process has been? Now if he hires Sonny Dykes, I'll help light the torches.. Until then stop with the nonsense..

You do realize "fan" is short for fanatic right?

And it's like that with every team. If you think otherwise, your just lying to yourself

I guess asking for a 10+ season is unreasonable. I've not seen one person on here say whoever is hired must take us to a BCS championship their first year. All we want is to win and beat teams that we should beat and play great football against great opponents like FL, Bama, and GA. I'd also like to recruit in the top 5 in the SEC too. I don't think that's unreasonable either.
