The #1 thing holding our program back is...

This is awesome. Here's a play-by-play of my posting in this thread:

1) Read thread title on forum page

2) Think, "Is OP going to say defence? No coaching. No AD/coaching search. No, it's gotta be coaching. What would be funny is if I post 'the fan base' - that's asinine! People will laugh, I'll get a thousand "Likes' and my ecred will skyrocket!"

3) Open thread

4) Read "our fan base"

5) Commence excessive LOL'ing at OP

So you are the one responsible for our football program being where it is?? The University of Tennessee is the decision makers, not spoiled fans who have no sense of responsibility or organizational structure. You and the looneys such as you have more of a negative impact on the program than any of the coaches I have seen since I saw my first my first Tennessee football game in 1946. During that period of time we have had some really good times and some really bad times. Until 20 years ago, give or take 2-3 years, the bad times were address with mature decision makes who got us through the bad times and returned us to the good times. Hart will do just fine in hiring a new coach without the lies and personal attacks on the AD, coaches and football players. I guess part of the problem is that it is difficult to see straight with only one eye or it could be only half a brain.

I'm all for bashing whiny fans when it needs to be done.

However, it's not the fans who have made the incredibly bad decisions at all levels of UT that has led us to the place where we stand tonight. It is the incredibly bad administration at the very top that filtered down to athletics that put us in this place.

Some of you are assigning way too much power to the fans. The reality is they're along for the ride in this.

I don't know if anyone realizes this but when former players are telling fans to calm down it's embarrassing it's bad.

The #1 thing holding our program back is...

Not the fan base!!!!!

Our tradition of being crazy enough to fill the stadium and love our team is a BIG reason we are a top job in the nation. It's up the AD and powers that be to hire good people to keep us in the stands and put the power back in the "T".

Federal regulations requiring mattresses to be flameproof - how are we going to effectuate meaningful change if we can't keep 'em lit ?

It isn't just about top of the art facilities anymore. You heard Hart said that parents now days care about the living conditions of the players. And our buildings are old compared to some of the other SEC schools. And it wouldn't hurt having a real football cosh.

I guess the OP didn't live through the Alabama hard times when their fans were going bananas over Shula and the guys before him because they weren't winning...the fans have NOTHING to do with if a coach comes here or not...Let me repeat that....NOTHING

I'm glad you used TB as your example. Maybe in 10 years we can honor him during a game. They can show recaps from when he dominated against cans, but you won't see the likes of FL, GA, SC. Our fanbase expects success. I remember the days of having top 5 recruiting classes, being ranked in the top 5 and realizing that the FL game was the difference between playing in the SEC Championship. I guess we should settle on being mediocre now!

I blame the Grudenites...they leaked sensitive information regarding a deal with Gruden that was about to be sealed...then the greed factor kicked in with his agent. Blew it up for Jon.
