The 108th U.S. Open Championship

so i'm hearing that Tiger may have re-injured his knee or make it worse than before surgery. he may be on the shelf for the British Open.

Better question, is this the apex of Tiger's career?
No. 2000 was the best golf ever played. His driver was the best in the game at that time. Great driving, combined with the rest of his game, which is all arguably top of the heap, is just untouchable. He started driving like that toward the end of last season, but he's again wayward. The graduated rough at the Open benefits Tiger more than other player, so more Opens might be in his future. He should never have been ables to back up that wedge on 18 on Sunday at the US Open, but that saved his bacon. It will again, for my money.

He certainly seemed unsure of himself in the presentation interview. He said he's going to shut it down for a while and see... not sure what to read into that.

Not much was made of that, but it was pretty incredible. I expected a big hop forward but instead it grabbed as if he had nipped it from the fairway.

Not so sure about that. Both guys can point to several places where they gave up shots, but Rocco's draining 3 birdies in a row pretty much made up for the one on 9.

there were other hiccups along the way throughout the tournament, but I don't recall any putting letdowns quite as major as nine for Rocco. He should have gained one stroke minimum and instead went COMPLETELY the other way.

Gotta also disagree with peaygolf's assertion that Sergio has no chance. He's come way too close way too many times in the majors to be counted out of it. However, I'll agree that there's no way Augusta runs a 15+. Maybe a 14, but not past 15.

Say what?

Say what?

I said I wouldn't count him out. I'm also not counting him out of the British or the PGA later this year. I know with your limited knowledge and great trolling abilities you don't understand the difference between giving someone a chance and thinking they'll win though.

and for the record TVA, yes, he's come close in a handful of majors. The PGA Championship against Tiger a few years back (made famous by his blind shot against the tree) and last year's British are two examples.

Also, he still pulled off a tie for 18th over the weekend, 7 strokes off the leaders. It's not like he came up lame this year.

Serge is a serious head case.

But are you actually willing to count him out at Birkdale next month or at Oakland Hills in August? I'm definitely not.

I'm also scared of what he might do at Valhalla in the Ryder Cup against us.

Even a blind squirrel can get a nut...

Since he's turned pro, he's missed 11 cuts in the majors. Ernie Els, Vijay, and Choke master Mickelson haven't even missed that many and they've all been playing longer. Heck, before this year, how long had it been since he even won an event on the PGA or European tours?

There are several other guys out there that haven't won majors that you could have put ahead of Sergio...

This nonsense has made you look foolish in a golf thread once this year. Back for more?

How did I look foolish? I went out on a limb and said he would win the Grand Slam. Oh well... with a bum leg in the Masters (which he needed operating on a few days later) and the US Open, he's got a 1st and 2nd place finish in each. The odds were better of Tiger actually pulling that off than Sergio winning a major (or even making a cut) this year. Heck, he didn't even make the cut in the Masters this year.

just because he's missed some cuts doesn't mean he hasn't come close in others, so yes you are still looking foolish. Also, learn to comprehend that not counting him out and picking him as a favorite are two different things. I know this stuff is difficult for you, but please try.

Tiger is great.....and will be the best ever when finished.

I 'm tired of the "Hogan" comparisons in newspapers and blogs around the country about this great win with an injured knee. Hogan almost died! Tiger took 8 weeks off for a surgery that keeps a hockey/football player out for 4 weeks. Give me a break. If he was not ready to play, he would not have played. He WILL play in the British Open. It's all part of the Tiger mistique! He is the BEST athlete in the world. No question about it! He is Ali and Ruth!

no no. you were acting as if he wasn't going to LOSE all year, which, now that he's done for 08, make you look even more silly.

I'm wrong! He will not play in the British or the rest of the year!

Crap! I'm not a huge Tiger fan, but he is the greatest athlete in the world today! I wish him a quick, full recovery! Hurry back....there is no one I like to pull against more!

I just heard Goosen's comments about Tiger "faking" the injury. Wow.......bring in superman to turn back time!!!!!! What a screw up. He was hurt MUCH worse than everone thought!!!!! I'm sorry!

Tiger has made many a fellow tour member who shoot his mouth off about him look silly. Goosen can go up there at the top with Rory.

negative. Goosen has some huge wins, including 2 US Opens, with Tiger in the field. Goosen also has one of the top 2 or 3 best swings in golf.

Rory has won nothing to back up his stupidity and has the ugliest, or close to it, swing on the tour.
