The 2008 Carolina Panthers thread

Yep, he will only continue to improve.

That one important catch that he dropped in between two defenders annoyed me. I mean Jake could have not thrown a better ball right to his hands. It's like the balls have to be some sort of circus catch for him to have a chance to catch them.

I don't think last night will be forgotten that easily if they win at NO, especially if they lose their road game in the playoffs because of what it could have been at home.
that was one ball that Jake forced i thought. Moose dropped one too late that could have been a 1st down.

the one criticism i would have of the offense is with the game on the line, they took teh ball out of Jake's hands. He had been playing well, the O line was doing a good job of protecting.......

they just didn't want to have any chance of an int, so they took it out of his hands. and that's fine if they make that fg. but they didn't.

it is what it is, hopefully they will get the win they SHOULD this weekend.
are you john fox's daughter?:eek:lol:

Jake may have forced it, but the ball landed right in the hands of Smith, you have to make those easier catches.

Speaking of the fg, did you all notice that little step or hop that Kasay made right before kicking it? As soon as he did that right before the kick I was like this is not going to be good. Kind of a moot point now, but I'm curious if that what kind of messed him up, look like he wasn't ready position wise.

I'm assuming Fox says this often? I can say I have never listened to him on after shows or whatever he does.

The holding penalty was just as bad as the drop. Its hard to understand how he can make the circus catches consistently, but drop balls that hit him on the numbers or are in his hands.

If they win at NO don't they get a week off and a home game?

yes. if they beat NO, we get one game at home and a bye.

lose and it's 3 games on the road.

Go panthers! I actually made it back in town for part of the game, only have to turn back around. Saw the score until it was 30 to 10, thought for sure this was a win. When I got back home I turned on the tv only to read on the scrolling score line state how kasay kicked the winning fg as time expired. So what happened? Did the defense fall asleep, the offense make mistakes, both?

Either way, this was a good win for the panthers, will help the guys out, to take a needed breather.

I thought they played great until the 4th QTR.I guess they thought the game was over when they went up 30-10.Their 4th QTR play was not playoff worthy, but they did make a gutty last minute drive, highlighted by another unbelievable Smith catch,to win it.

The lapses in focus and intensity they have shown this season are the only reason I don't feel like they're the team to beat.

All in all its been a very exciting season

NFC SOUTH CHAMPS !!! :baloon:

I'm still trying to figure out who I should be pulling for in the WC games?

I think the Vikings would be our best match up and I'm very happy we won't get the Eagles in the first game.

Go Panthers !!!

We got a little conservative on the playcalling because of some penalties and Kasay shanked a 41 yarder. So Brees just started throwing all over us to the tune of 21 straight points, one helped by a 20 yard punt.

With just over 3 minutes to go, we ran it a little to the 2 minute warning and then Smitty had a huge catch in double coverage to the 39 yard line, and then Moose got another first down and we ran the clock to 6 seconds and lined up.

Of course everyone is praying that he forgot about the studder step last week but before we could kick, I believe Gross had a false start and it got pushed to a 42 yarder. But he hit it, mercifully.

However with 1 second left Kasay kicked it OB and Brees needed just 16 yards for the record. But, he underthrew the route and lost the game and the record.

We obviously have a problem closing out games, but I have faith the bye week will help that to an extent.

Congrats to the Carolina Panthers, not just for winning but never giving up and playing a very gutsy 4th quarter.:salute:

Tickets went on sale yesterday, tried to get some, but they only had singles available, the ones that were club level for $400 per ticket. No thanks, but anywhere you try to get tickets you have to be willing to drop a pretty penny, it sucks! :cray:

Just found this thread. I'm a big Panthers fan...glad to find that there are others on here. I also frequent Carolina Huddle (I don't have the same username on that board) you guys should check that one out.

So...Arizona is coming to Charlotte next week. I think we'll take care of them well, as long at they aren't able to exploit our secondary too badly. I'd love to see Philly win so the Panthers can get the NFC Championship game at home.

anyone can be a fan of that......................

as for the game at hand.........two scary matchups............our secondary against Kurt Warner, Boldin and Fitzgerald...........advantage Arizona.......big time. we got torced for nearly 400 yards passing last time. the secondary is going to have to step it up.

the other one is our o line and rb's against their defense. we should be able to pound and pound. and they're going to have to, to keep AZ off the field.

do that, and the Panthers win. get caught in a shootout and AZ can win this game.

i'll take the Panthers 27-24

that 9.5 point spread is a little too high. I think Carolina will be able to control this game a little better than they did against AZ the first time. Boldin will be banged up for this weekend, and our secondary will be ready for what they've got. When we first played them, Williams was JUST getting the steam he's running with now...and we didnt' really know yet that Warner was still a good QB.
Of course I'm nervous, but I think it should definitely be a "win".
I wish I could go to the game. I was at the Denver game and had a blast. Not quite the same atmosphere as a UT game, but it was still a lot of fun.

our secondary hasn't been ready for anything the past two weeks. and if boldin can be back after two games of getting his face broken, i'm sure he can/will play with a sore hammy.

all i'm saying is every time the panthers have faced competent qb's and wr's, they've gotten lit up in the passing game. AZ and NO both lit 'em up.

the good news......the panthers won both games. but they were playing with fire in both instances.

run the ball, keep Warner and co. on the sidelines.

I am a little concerned about this game, I was hoping for Minn to win, I would have rather taken them even though we lost to them regular season, I just think that would have been more of a reason for the panthers to win.

Arizona looked great the other day, and I'm not so sure our defense will stop them. Our Offense really has to have a spectacular day.

yeah, there is plenty of room on the Panthers wagon. I grew up in Wilson, NC and have liked them since their first year...but I can see how this year's team could really bring in some football fans who may not have a team of their own.
DWill and JStew in the backfield...then Smith and Moose out wide...it's just a fun team to watch.
Who doesn't like to watch Peppers and Beason????

This team is going to the super bowl!

BTW, is anyone else sick and tired of hearing about how Edge got his groove back??? He had one 75+yards game. Big whoop!!
Hopefully "double trouble" will take this whole Edge thing as bulletin board material, and they'll come out to show how unstoppable they really are.

i don't trust the cards running game.

the thing that should scare the crap out of us is their WR against our Secondary.

if we don't get pressure on warner, this game is going to be tight.

Probably will create pressure with the front seven usuing stunts and similar tactics. Trying to get DB help causing pressure will just make one more hole for Warners WR's.

Hey Jake,

Not that this will happen this year, but what if this is something that ever happens. Steelers and Panthers meet up in the superbowl. Obviously you will cheer for the Steelers, but what if the Panthers win? Will you be mad?

actually i dred such a match up. the steelers are my team, no question, but living in charlotte for 10 years, i do like the panthers quite a bit.

last year when the steelers played the panthers in charlotte in the regular season i was originally happy, cause i thouhght i couldn't lose.

actually being at the game and watching, it was miserable. everytime the steelers did something good, i was pissed at the panthers, and vice versa.

as for the super bowl........ugh.........i'd be so happy because one of my teams was going to win. but i'd absolutely hate that one of them had to lose the super bowl..........it's the freakin' super bowl!

i will say this....if it did come to it, and the panthers won......i'd be ok. we have 5. the panthers, and charlotte, getting a trophy would be pretty cool, even if at my steelers expenese.

but i know from last year's game, it would be a knashing of teeth and wringing of hands experience for me.

i might take half my Ward jersey and Peppers jersey and sew them together for that game........:p

Aw the femine side is coming out, that's cute. :p

Last year are you talking about the panthers/steelers preseason game that doesn't mean much? Two years ago there was a regular season match up between the two, and I was at that game. Frustration for the panthers for sure, worst game defensively and offensively that season. I stayed until the bitter end. If the two meet up, I surely hope the outcome is not like that, and I don't think it will be with the way the two sides of the ball are playing.

Could very well happen this year. I like the steelers or baltimore to win in the afc. NFC I think will be told after this weekend.
