The 2008 Carolina Panthers thread

Cheer up Titan fans!!!!!!

Hold on, wait one minute......The NFL has decided that yes the BCS system is the way to go, and since everyone can really guess who are the best teams to play for a championship.....Tennessee will play the New York football Giants for the Mythical World football Championship.

i'm not defending Jake. you can't be responsible for 6 turnovers and not be the primary reason you lost.

what i'm saying about the defense is they don't help matters. there are teams still playing this weekend that will turnover the ball, but their d gets it back for them.

it just goes both ways. get a stop. stop throwing int's. they'd help each other out. neither one did their job last night. Larry fitzgerald with no appreciable help at any other WR spot, or real running game, torched our zone def. Warner played the game virtually pressure free.

and giving the ball to that offense 6 times isn't how you win games. the only other point i would make about the latter picks is that once they got down by 3+ TD's in the 3rd quarter, our game plan was out the window. we were throwing because we had to. Jake forced balls and the cards were able to pressure him and force mistakes.

the two picks and the fumble in the 1st half are what sealed ourfate. that game last night at 27-7 was over.

like i said...putrid effort by Jake and our entire defense.

What a miserable ending to what was overall a very exciting season. The game gave me that sick feeling I usually get when the Vols are getting hammered by Fla or Bama.

Jake and the defense both sucked and should share the blame.

They better get some help for the defense this off season, especially at linebacker and in the secondary.

I guess I will be pulling for the Giants now,and a Giants-Steelers Super bowl would be cool

Tough matchup and unfortunately bad game you guys got. Still great season by the panthers, nothing to scoff at. They won their division, had a great year, and probably got their coach a few mow years at carolina too....saw some playmakers develop too in williams and slaton. Know the offseason might be a little long, but best of luck next year

agreed, though i don't know how much help the LB's need, except maybe an upgrade with some speed somewhere......the secondary is plain awful. they have no idea what they are doing and look very slow, and not very physical.

the d line is good. but i'm of the opinion now that Peppers can't help this team to the extent that he is the difference maker that his reputation says he is.

i look at other 4-3 line men and OLB's in a 3-4 and there are a lot better players........Harrison, Ware, even inside Haynesworth and Kiesel and Vandenbosh are all factors on every def play that they are on the field. Peppers is not. imagine Peppers with the mentality of a Ray Lewis?

i'd rather have 4 Tyler Braytons out there right now.

the secondary needs a head hunter, someone that can direct traffic.

as much hell as Jake should get for that game......the reality is the offense isn't awful right now. I will say this, if you can upgrade the qb, then i htink they should do so, but not at the expense of filling holes on the Def side of the ball. that's where this team is the most deficient.

Just heard that Steve Smith is paying $25,000 so that a local Charlotte HS band can travel up to play at Obama's inauguration.
He really is a stand-up dude. It's a shame that so many people will just remember him for punching out some mediocre CB.

So I was just looking, and we might as well enjoy this season because 2009 season will be no piece of cake.

Home: Atl, NO, TB, Phil, Wash, Min, Buff, Miami.
Away: Atl, NO, TB, Dal, NYG, Ariz, NE, NYJ.

:ermm:

Oh help us get some defense next year please!

Peppers wants out of Charlotte because he thinks he's being under utilized.

That's what is great about the NFL. When you're good you have a tough schedule the next year.

this thing with Peppers is bad folks. it shows that there is a divide between the players and coaches on the def side of hte ball. it reared its head last year when Jenkins couldn't keep his mouth shut. now it's back when all the sudden a guy that never saysy anything about anything all the sudden vocalizes how much he wants out of his home town team's situation?

i don't just hate fox and co.....and i don't think peppers is all that his reputation says he is.......but i don't think this is good.

i think this team can win now as is. i do think they need some different thinking on the def side of the ball......the cards game made that glaringly obvious.

plus one has to at least wonder....would going after a Bill Cowher or Mike SHanahan or Jon Gruden be an upgrade over Fox?

that's a debate for sure, at the least.

i think this team is about to be at a cross roads from the top down.

I will be there for the Phins game :)

Wow this is some bad stuff. Do you think he will leave? Is he trying to get traded for another team?

Also do you think Fox is going anywhere? I haven't heard much about that. This was a pretty good year for him, but his post season was horrible, is it enough for a change?

I think Pep is a gonner, but we'll keep Gross. Fox is definitely safe, but Trgo could be outta there. Ever since Del Rio left, the defense has gone downhill. Sure, they are always decent, but just not quite dominant like we'd like. I've heard rumor of promoting the defensive backs coach to DC. He was DC in Pittsburgh not too terribly long ago. Apparently he runs a 3-4...so we might see that working its way into Carolina soon.

I just hope we don't drop Jake for some unproven QB. Sure he didn't give us a chance to win that game against Arizona, and he had the worst game of his career...but there are only about six QBs that I'd rather see leading this team onto the field.

this team will do things the way they do things...conservatively. Peppers wants out. he'll get out. the biggest problem with this whole deal now is the panthers have no leverage. they'll franchise him and take the higest bid.

the absolutely have to get Gross signed, and soon.

i don't forsee any changes to the coaching staff. and like i said i don't hate fox, but at some point....with who is available, do you at least consider a change? Shanahan and Cowher are both upgrades over Fox.

the issue really boils down to what you believe...is Turgo just a puppet more or less for fox? if so, then they need to fire fox and co. If not, i'd jeitison Turgo in a heartbeat. I've not liked the way our defense has played all year. the lack of adjustments and poor tackling, no blitzing......ugh.....anyway....

i just think that losing peppers is not the end of the world, but we're not going to get anything close to what he's really worth. and we stil have big holes to fill on the rest of the def.

if this team wants to win now, this is going to be a very interesting off season.

what's this we stuff? i thought that you were a steelers fan.

been a steeler fan all my life. but having lived here for 10 years, i've grown to really like th panthers a lot. plus they're an NFC team so it's a little easier to claim a 2nd team.

I've been struggling with this hire. I mean yeah, it's a good one, but Meeks' D has always been good, but not great.

His run D has definitely been suspect over the years...but still an upgrade over what we saw this season.

Either way, all the SB hype makes me sick right now. We were set up to roll straight through to Tampa.

Tell that to Arizona. :banghead2: But I will be rooting for them in the SB.

I see your avatar, are you actually a bobcats fan?

When the Hornets left, I didn't bother rooting for them and then I found out we were getting a team back in NC so I picked 'em up. Didn't hurt that I was a UNC fan until I came to UT and Felton was my favorite player.

The one move I regret is Morrison. Hate that guy.

just out running errands today and i've seen more people decked out in panther gear than i did all season. everyone wearing t shirts, jackets, jerseys......

if they had that kind of vigor thru out the year, you might not find Steeler and Cardinal baloons at your local Harris Teeter.

anyway...glad to see the team spirit. even if it does seem a little odd...or late.

by all rights, they should have won SB 38. couldn't get a stop after kicking the ball out of bounds. Jake is not THE problem on this team. HE's not the singular thing preventing this team from doing more.
