The 2008 Carolina Panthers thread

Yeah, but unfortunately he's 5-6 years older now.

We need to start grooming his replacement as soon as possible.

When the Hornets left, I didn't bother rooting for them and then I found out we were getting a team back in NC so I picked 'em up. Didn't hurt that I was a UNC fan until I came to UT and Felton was my favorite player.

The one move I regret is Morrison. Hate that guy.

UNC fan, what is wrong with you?

just out running errands today and i've seen more people decked out in panther gear than i did all season. everyone wearing t shirts, jackets, jerseys......

if they had that kind of vigor thru out the year, you might not find Steeler and Cardinal baloons at your local Harris Teeter.

anyway...glad to see the team spirit. even if it does seem a little odd...or late.

Saw a lot as well, I actually bought some new tshirts the day of the playoff game, should have waited, they may have gone on discount the next day. :birgits_giggle:

I hope so as well. Defense will need help as we all know, but I am more than ready to find someone to at least trade him out with.

We've officially just got a few more days to sign Gross and franchise Pep. I'm starting to get worried that Hurney might blow this one.

Peppers said that if the Panthers apply the franchise tag, he will request a trade. No surprise there, but Gross' bank account should be sitting pretty real soon (if Hurney can sign him).

I wonder why so many Panther fans want to throw Jake Delhomme under the bus after his horrible playoff performance, he played just as bad as everyone else did on the team and defense.

This is not the first time that Jake has had a horrible game in the playoffs. He is an average at best quarterback, no one to get excited about.

I agree, John Fox has some major league 'nards to put all of his eggs into that basket. I would be surprised if he is cut for salary cap purposes, Fox loves that guy. It is going to be a long off season if we lose Peppers and Gross, plus the other free agents we have to sign. Hurney will earn his money this year.

the AZ game was the worst game of his career. the Super Bowl wasp probably the best.

the true abilty of Jake Delhomme is in the middle of that.

Jake is still the man in Charlotte. Sure, he had a terrible playoff game this season. But he's still the leader of this offense. He may not be even close to the most talented, but he is definitely a good leader...85% of the time.

I just saw where we have made "significant progress" in resigning Gross ($9mil a year). The announcement is supposed to be made on that by Thursday. If we can do that, and then tag Peppers, I'll be elated. At that point, we will trade Pep for a first round pick. Brian Orakpo baby!!!!

I think you have to franchise Pep and trade him, because if we keep him on with the tag, he will definitely hold out of training camp, and then he's no good to anyone.

Done Deal with Gross. He has officially signed, so now we'll just go slap Pepp with that franchise tag. This gives the Panthers all the power. If they don't find a trade they like for Pepp, then he can choose to play for Carolina...or else just sit out (which he'd never do).

I think he would.

But it doesn't help matters that his trade list would only have 4 teams, 1 being the Cowboys and 2 others also being in the NFC.

Congrats to J. Gross, the big man landed a massive deal. $30.5 million over the first three years of the contract. WOW!

Charles Johnson has been beginning to assert himself and was good at UGA, but we need a proven end to let him keep growing.

Bridges, Goings, and Hacket were just released. Hacket was an extremely be disappointment. It will be strange seeing a Panthers team without Nick G on the roster...but I guess we don't really need him right now. I hope releasing Bridges doesn't turn out to be a mistake.
Apparently, the Panthers are shopping Ken Lucas pretty hard. If they can't find a decent trade value for him, they'll just release him to free up lots of cap room.
I wonder if they'll keep Rhys Loyd.

get the picks for Peppers and as for Lucas....he just can't play like he used to. i don't know that anyone will pick him up. but since they don't have to release him for the cap now, i won't be surprsied if he's back next year.

they just have to get better in the secondary and D line.....offensively, they should still be pretty good.
