The sport just isn't competitive, it's a 2 horse race, generally not something the IOC is fond of. Finland had one of the greatest goalkeepers ever, so the scores looked much more reasonable than they actually were.
65000 women hockey players in the US vs 3000 in Sweden. I don't think the IOC has a choice if they want to keep women's hockey in the Olympics. Would they remove women's hockey and leave men's hockey? I don't think they would like the international backlash that would cause.

The International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation keeps detailed statistics back to 2005 for all Olympic and world championship events. In this time period, for all four-man, two-man, and two-woman bobsled competitions, the team ahead after the third run has won 100 percent of the time. The fourth run of an international bobsled competition, then, is the most meaningless event in all of sportsor at least tied for first in the meaninglessness rankings with every preseason NFL game.
The team thats leading after two runs has gone on to win 85 percent of the time, and even after one run the leading team wins 70 percent of competitions.
Thanks for running it.
This is interesting.

Cross-Country Skier Dario Cologna Waited To Greet Peru's Roberto Carcelen At The Finish Line - Business InsiderIn what will go down as one of the more touching moments of the Sochi Olympics, Swiss cross-country skier Dario Cologna won a gold medal and then waited 28 minutes to congratulate last-place finisher Roberto Carcelen of Peru at the finish line.
The 43-year-old Carcelen is Peru's first Winter Olympian and has only been skiing since 2005. He was also competing with broken ribs as the result of a training accident just two weeks before the Olympics.
Damn Netherlands and their speedskating medals! My god, when are those events going to end?
