Nah. He's fine. Even UK fans have been saying all year that it's the worst team he's had so far. It doesn't really feel like a flop. IU is a good team. We would probably lose to UNC 9/10 times in the next one anyway.
I agree they had some bad losses, specifically the two you mentioned, but they were playing some of their best basketball lately too. They really looked dialed in during the SECT. I thought they could beat IU, and if those teams played 10 times, they probably split them 5 and 5. The talent is that close.
Tonight, the difference seemed to be the presence of IU center, Thomas Bryant. UK had no answer for him and nobody who could match him up inside, which is a departure from normal for them in years past.
They had been playing better but the SEC is not that good. The SEC Tourney is not a neutral site. It is in name only. Ky had too many flaws.
Oh, I don't disagree they had flaws. An absence of the kind of size Cal has grown accustomed to in the paint being the main one. This is by far Cal's most perimeter-oriented UK team.
I'm just saying they were playing some of their best ball just a week ago, regardless of competition. They were shooting well, defending at an elite level, and peaking at the right time, none of which were entirely predicated on the competition of the SECT. Then they were dealt a terrible draw in the NCAA tourney, and didn't play their best against IU.
They were playing better than they had been playing, but I still say the SEC competition had something to do with it. A & M is a good team and they gave them all they could handle in what was essentially a home game for Ky. Murray & Ulis were going to carry them as far as they could. Guards usually can carry a team in the tourney but their lack of a consistent inside presence was their weakness. Which is comical given the talent Cal has at his disposal.
6-2 today, 14/16 Sweet 16, 7/8 Elite 8, 3/4 Final 4.
Got Maryland, Villanova, Oregon, Northern Iowa, Oklahoma, and Xavier tomorrow. WVU and Mich. St. held me out of the other two games.
He should have got a moving van for not giving Ulis minutes over the twins last year. They would have beaten Wisconisn.
So, he shouldn't accept his reality as a developing role player on a probable FF team and rather pine for a chance to be a starter on a mid major going nowhere.Very misleading stat for his current role. Not even playing close to that many minutes here at the end of the season.
Only played 3min yesterday. That should tell us what his role really is
