The 2023 March Madness “Other Games” Thread

It was always going to be UConn. They were the best team at the beginning and now they will be at the end.

Miami and FAU in the FF. This is a wake up call to UF. We are NOT getting it done. Time to open up the coffers and buy the coaches and players we need to bet back to relevant.

Hire May and get his whole team over through the transfer portal. Sell them on NIL exempt from state income tax and the low cost of relocation due to (relative) proximity.

Our “blown chance” is taking on almost comical proportions now…..

You don't have to make it seem like it should be easy.

We would likely lose to every team in the FF so I don't feel like it was any worse of a blown opportunity than, say, last year. And definitely not as bad as Grant's last year. None of these are bad teams:

FAU - already lost to them. Historically underseeded.
UCONN - monster team. Would require best game is the year to defeat
SDU - bad match up for us (great defense, better wings / guards & ball handling)
Miami - best chance of beating. But they beat Indiana, Houston, and now Texas to get there.

I never said it was easy. Just we had a reasonable path to the FF. The fact another 4 seed, 2 5 seeds and a 9 seed DID make reinforces “we could be there”. I also don’t think it’s “worse” than the ones you mention. That very cumulative effect makes it even more annoying in my opinion. It’s less of a fluke and more of our MO…

Yes, we did lose to FAU (and I agree, they should have been a 4 or 5 seed). We were still 15 spots above them in KenPom and favored by 5-6 points. We hit our bunnies in the first half and the lead is likely too big to blow. Not only could we have beaten FAU, we SHOULD have. Could we beat KSU, absolutely! Just get to the FF and anything can happen. UConn is the only team there that “may” outclass us. Same could have been said for Kansas, Texas and Alabama (who are all at home too) but we won those. So while I don’t think it’s ever easy, I DO think we had a manageable path to the EE or FF and (yet again) blew our chance.

Hilarious. Rod Terry was 37-48 (19-33) and was fired by UTEP just before taking the Texas assistant coach job. Now they will be put on blast if they don’t hire him. They’d love to have Shaka or Barnes back.

What is the protocol? Do they have to keep Terry for 3 full seasons before they run him off?

The media will push for him, but they don't have to do anything.
