The All Things Cycling Thread

I have a Chrome Citizen messenger bag that I use almost daily. In fact, I had my laptop, cellphone, wallet, and about $300 worth of textbooks in it last night. Not a drop of water anywhere inside. I highly recommend Chrome. I would also look at North St. Bags.

Thanks! Do you have issue with the sling type bags wanting to shift around? I was leaning towards the backpack style but if shifting weight is not an issue I prefer the style of that Citizen.

It doesn't really shift at all, no. I also have a rolltop Abus backpack that I got at a swap meet. I don't use that often, it's more of an overnight bag.

Used to do triathlons for many years and gave it up quite a while back. Got too busy with wife, kids, work etc and love to do so many other things. Just started back riding but on a different bike. Got a hybrid that's pretty cool but as most of you know, the more you ride the more you wanna trick it out. Any hybrid riders here that can tell me what they've done that you liked or would have done different? Looking at longer rides, like cross country/camping out kind of rides.

Front & rear racks, fenders, lights. Check out Jones H Loop bars, or Surly Moloko or Velo Orange Crazy Bars, for some trick and super comfortable bars for bike camping and long rides.

Really like my Specialized Pizza Rack for bike camping and all around hauling tons of stuff.

Cool. Thanks VOLatile.

Trying to warm up around here bump! So Windrock Bike Park in Oliver Springs is hosting a Pro GRT event March 8-11 and has some seriously fast competitors showing up. It isn't often you see world cup downhill riders in this area, but they have Danny (STAY ON YOUR BIKE DANNY!) Hart, Greg Minnaar, Luca Shaw and others racing on Sunday. A few of the fastest riders in the world and recent world champs.

Come out and watch them race if you can.

I've only had fun with my Jeep out there. Have you ever ridden the bike trails? Are they all insane or are there some that are fun without the risk of death or paralysis? My family really needs me to remain in some semblance of functioning order.

You're a doc right? They should pay you to ride there :D

I don't have a bike for Windrock, trying to remedy that this year. They have a flow trail called Talladega that is probably about as smooth as Windrock gets.

A couple of the Syndicate riders doing a course preview. You can bet there will be mud on Sunday though and this is why I expect Danny Hart to kill it and take the win.

I'll take that as a "No, stick to Baker, Dirty South, Haw Ridge, and Loyston."

Hey, Windrock does have an XC loop. You might check that one out. I saw several folks on crutches and with their arms in a sling on race day. Don't tell anyone you are doc while there!

That looks sharp. Enjoy the dirt!

Thanks. Spent 3.5 hours on it Friday and then the weather turned to garbage. First race is on Sunday, but I'm undecided on whether I'll participate or not. Calling for freezing rain/snow and I'm not going to register in case it may get canceled.

Can anyone recommend touring shoes?

Touring shoes have cleats recessed, so that one may walk about with ease off the bike and clip in to ride.

I have a pair of Specialized Recon shoes I use for mountain biking and gravel. They fit better than any other brand I've owned, but each brand can fit drastically different.

I signed up to race because the precipitation isn't supposed to show up until later on, but they moved up my category.

7th place after going up a class. Haven't raced XC in 4 years. Never finished better than 10th racing in Novice class. Lost the sprint for 6th by .1 sec.

Your commuting miles are paying off. Nice result!

Meh. I'm probably in the worst shape of my life right now. I'm back up to like 245lbs after a tough winter. I attribute it to smart riding and not blowing up until the final sprint. Also not being able to get clipped in caused me to not give the full effort on the start. Ha.

Good ride at Haw Ridge this afternoon. That's a fun track, but it's really suffering from erosion, with roots making for some impossible climbs for a novice like me. I took a nasty over-the-handlebars spill with what I hope is just a sprain to my pinky, but I'll x-ray it Monday if it's worse.
