The All Things Cycling Thread

12 miles is a pretty good ride for me, depending on the track. Ride more, try not to tense up your neck and shoulders or squeeze too firm with your hands.

Thanks. Yeah, felt pretty good about it for my first ride. Plus, it's hilly here in Ga lol

Don't lock up your elbows. That's the biggest cause of that type of pain. Without seeing your fit that's the best advice I can give you.

What'd you get?

El cheapo, but am currently saving to buy an aluminum with a carbon fork Scott I hope to have next year. That is what the dealer sells in my hometown

Just got my bike and completed my first ride. I'm so out of shape I feel dead after only 12 miles 😂. Thing that hurts the most are my shoulders. Y'all have any tips for that?

Check your saddle angle. If it is tilted down in front you will put a lot of pressure on your shoulders. You might have a local shop check your fit on the bike. You can probably get close just reading about bicycle fit or watching some videos on the subject.

Some tips on fit here as well as pretty much everything ever to do with bikes: https://sheldonbrown.com/frame-sizing.html

So, Raccoon Mtn is awesome. Fast and challenging in certain areas. We shuttled up a few times and did live wire twice and high voltage. Some of the best downhill Mtb in the south east

Need to check that one out. Are the trails more natural or flow style?

Both. There's some gnarly rock gardens up top on high voltage and live wire has some screaming DH flow with a section of steep switchbacks that snake down the mountain.

The climb up is brutal if you don't shuttle. There's something for the tech heads and the flow fans

What do you guys think about the Trek Emonda ALR 4. It's in the $1100 price range, aluminum with a carbon fork. Not sure what the real difference is between it and a Cannondale in the same price range.

There really isn't much difference between two major companies in the same price range other than geometry. Ride both and buy the one you feel better on.

People become Superman when they get behind the wheel and say and do things they never would otherwise. How hard is it to show someone some common freaking courtesy on the roadways?

If I ever get into road biking (I doubt I will - I hate spandex), I'm going to bike strapped.

I took in a road bike in trade a while back and just really got started with fixing it up. Took it out today (hairy legs and all) for a ride and while the bikes are amazingly fast, they feel so restrictive to me I don't think I could ever get back into it. I do ride on the streets some on a mountain bike but I can always hop a curb or ditch if need be to get out some idiot's way. Can't really do that on a carbon road bike so I'm selling it.,

Gravel Worlds on Saturday. 150 gravel miles, 110000' of elevation gain in Lincoln, NE. My little attempt at redemption for failing at Dirty Kanza.

Fell last Saturday while running and sliced open both hands so there's that added pain to go with it.

Signed up for my first triathlon. Would getting clip on aero bars help tons? Figured I would know someone that would let me borrow theirs to try out. Last night I tried combining cycling and running for the first time. Legs responded much better on the run than I thought they would.

What distance is the triathlon? Aero bars put you in a more powerful position, and of course give you a slipstream, but they also give you less control. You would absolutely have to ride and get used to them before the race.
