The All Things Cycling Thread

KHS has a great price point for entry level road bikes. Felt has some solid entry level road bikes. Trek, Giant, Specialized are pretty much sticker packages. I really like Cannondale, too. I know a guy it Chattanooga that custom builds bikes, too, but they're not entry level or cheap.

Compare components and wheelsets, rather than frame style. Most large companies will skimp on crank or wheels to maintain the low advertised price.

22 miles in after dinner tonight. We were on our way for 50, but I ate it on a rut trying to clip in and screwed up my wrist. Freak accident. I've never fallen trying to clip in while using the Speedplays.

Oops. I've not toppled since I first got pedals several years ago, but I come close every once in a while.

Regarding Orangesmokey's questions, I don't know the current market like VOLatile or a number of other people may, but my impression is that within a given price range all the major brands are going to have roughly the same bike as far as quality and components go.

So once you establish what you want to pay it's important to look for a shop that offers good service and takes the time to help you find a bike that fits.

If you end up with a bike that is uncomfortable to ride, you've got a big problem.

You wouldn't be talking about Troy would you??

And thanks for all the input from all of you. Tri-Vol the article was very helpful and now begins the process of trying to decide how much I want to spend.

Richie Moore. Builds them at Cysco Cycles. He used to weld Ti frames at Lynskey. Now he has his own company building twisted steel, stainless, and Ti bikes.

I know a guy named Troy that builds bike wheels for road bikes and stuff. Aparently Lance Armstrong has purchased wheels from him before. I don't know how much truth there is to that but that's what I have been told. I have seen and felt some of his wheels before though and they are super light.

the road crews have been out with their stupid grooving machine. And of course no one tells me about it.

So twice in the past week I've found myself on a road that's completely grooved over. One of them was a divided road. I said, "Forget riding on this," so I switched over and rode in the lane facing traffic.

There's a third road that they've grooved the right half of the lane, so now I ride in the middle of the lane, making cars behind me wait. Oh yes.

Don't blame me, drivers. Blame the road crews.

Incredible. Have you ever come up on a rumble strip while not paying attention? Those are annoying as hell. I hit a speed bump at about 20 mph last night dodging through a school parking lot... wasn't even paying attention. I was nearly bucked off of my bike 2 minutes into the ride.

If anyone's looking for cheap parts, Rocky Mountain Cyclery has a $.95 starting bid sale going on on Ebay right now. This is how I won my mountain bike frame, handlebars, and stem.

If I could afford it, I'd be all over some of those frames. Just to build and re-sell or sell the frames on Craigslist. I just watched a few of them go for $.95 ($42.50 shipping) with 1 bidder.

Someone buy this and send it to me to build up with super awesome components. K?

Bicycling magazine has their buyers guide this month. Might want to grab a copy.

Thanks. Gonna pickup a cheap jersey.

Saw some for about $40. Refuse to pay $80-100

They occasionally have sales on clothing. Like them on Facebook and you'll get updates when they do special sales like this one.

Just got off the phone with Pinarello... :) Picked up the Torker dealership 2 days ago. Talked about creating a race team with a local green tea dealer. Getting nuts around here.

Yep. I have 1 pair of bibs, I think they were $100. They're awesome. I bet the even more expensive stuff is even nicer. I need more bib shorts. Like 2-3 more, to be exact. All of my jerseys were under $50, but that's because I got them on eBay on the cheap or the Reddit jerseys were sold for $40 in a group buy. Hammer Nutrition jersey was so cheap because they practically give them away. Pretty comfy jersey for $35, imo.

I wear Performance Elite bib shorts. They always get great reviews and are usually on sale for $60-70. I don't mind Bellweather shorts for quick rides & they cost about $50.

The Clymb sells closeout stuff from manufacturers. They send an email about once a week. they occasionally have jerseys on there.
