The All Things Cycling Thread

Towed the kid in the trailer to the park with my singlespeed. Tomorrow night pacing a friends 10 yr. old in a 4 mtb race. Last year it took him an hour. Hope he's a little quicker this year.

Spring didn't work for the seatpost. However, I have the correct rear der on my mountain bike and it shifts like a wet dream now.

Some mountain bike miles this afternoon. No idea how many. Got lost in the bad part of town on my way back home.

Just missed being hit by unexpected rain this evening by a few minutes. I didn't even check the radar when I left because it was partly sunny.

No, I haven't gone there. I'm not hardcore enough that shaving would make a difference, perceived or otherwise.

I'm doing it because of the ease of cleaning road rash. First race is coming up and they don't call Cat 5 "Crash 5" for nothing... It looks weird, but I've only shaved the areas that are likely to slide along the ground.

Local mtn bike race last night. City hosts a series called Disco Night. $10/race or $30 for the series. 3-4 mile laps. Experts do 3 laps, sport 2 & beginner 1. Very low key except for one guy. Middle age man with a gut and ace bandage on his knee is racing expert class. Experts get a 60 second head start on Sport class. My friend is racing sport and in second place right on the wheel of 1st. They catch the old expert guy in the first 5-10 minutes of the race. Dude let's the leader pass, waits for my friend to pull even with him, then throws an elbow and sends my buddy crashing off the trail into the woods. After the race he asked the guy why he did it and the reply was old dude didn't think there was enough room to pass. My friend was like wtf, so you wrecked me. Old dude says hey that's what happens when you're racing. Some people really amaze me.

Most mt bikers are good people. Most races dont start before 11 AM. I say thats because they are too busy drinking or smoking grass to get up before 10:30. Like everything else you always have a couple of jerks who think they are racing a tour event.

In other news, I revisited one the road that the grooving machine had destroyed a few weeks ago. It's freshly repaved.

You can't beat cruising on smooth surface. Too bad I was only on it for a mile or so. I'd love to have a 20-mile stretch of that, slightly rolling, with no wind.

Officially registered for the 2012 Sylvan Island Stampede. This'll be my first race ever. Apparently, whoever gets the holeshot has the best advantage. There aren't many places to pass and usually people crash in the first turn. I'm hoping to finish in the top half; however, I will be content with just finishing.

I'm tempted to register for the criterium early, but I should probably wait until I get more money in my bank account. That's not until Memorial Day.

Also, I can't decide what to upgrade first when I get a cash flow again. I need new road shoes, new helmet, platform pedals, and a front shock. I have to also pay for the parts I put on my mountain bike, first.

Does not compute.
