The All Things Cycling Thread

Hm. Maybe it happened when you got hit? I couldn't diagnose it without actually having it in my hands. If you're looking for a new wheelset, I can get you a smoking deal on some Easton EA90's... ;) Or I could custom build you a set. Enve 25mm carbon tubulars laced to Dura-Ace hubs?

We heard back from Pinarello today and are officially the newest Pinarello, Eddy Mercx, and Pegoretti dealership. We plan on carrying Pinarello only, but have the option for the others. That's really going to piss some of the shops off here once the newest store in the area has the highest end bikes on the floor.

Pinarello is my favorite. Mercx is second

I like Pinarello, but I'm going to get a Felt AR eventually. I just like how bad ass they look. We hope to carry Look by the end of next year, too. That's our main reason to get Pinarello, because Look requires you to have a certain track record of high end bike sales to become a dealer.

There's a pretty good loop you can ride from Pigeon Forge to Walland. I looked for a map but did not immediately find it.

If you find it let me know. Id like to check that out. Last fall I rode that old road in Townsend thats really popular. Was thinking if going back there and riding a little of the Parkway too.

Alright guys... kinda shot me down on this one but thanks for the info and helping me not make a $150 mistake. Guess I will keep saving some money and buy something that will fit me a little better

I think I got the cue sheet from a website that has since changed. It's somewhat cumbersome to recreate, but pretty simple to follow on a map.

You start here near Pigeon Forge (I've parked at the school)

Google Maps

Head north on Goose Gap.

Turn left on SugarLoaf (just before you get to Whites School)

Then basically meander along small roads on the N.E. side of the ridge line

S Rodgers
Alpine
Dripping Springs
Old Chilhowee
Cold Springs

Then turn left on Old Walland.

Take the next left at E Miller's Cove, and that (road becomes Walden's Creek) takes you back to the starting point.

Thanks. I will look it up. How many miles is it?

Off the top of my head, I'm thinking 50 miles?

I wish I could find the cue sheet. I'm thinking of riding it again some weekend. Nice to have the sheet in the event my memory gets a bit dicey on those back roads.

Nearly took a nose dive off a very steep cliff last night. Would not have been cool since they just cut the trees down on the side and they're pretty much spears sticking out of the ground now. That part of the course could get dangerous for the expert/sport class riders. Novice doesn't race that section, fortunately.

Won yet another frame tonight. Rocky Mountain Whistler 10. Touring frame. $15.50. I'll deck it out with Dura-Ace bar end shifters, SLX front and rear derailleurs, maybe a Whiskey carbon fork, Avid disc brakes, Thomson stem and seat post, etc.

Paying off my bill at the shop and potentially ordering my fork tomorrow. I think I'm going with a Manitou R7 Pro. 100mm travel version, probably. $310 cost.

Riding at dusk, rolling downhill, when unexpectedly I hit something on the road. A second later I hear a metallic cling.

I stopped and glanced at the bike (I thought a spoke might be out or something) then went back and looked at the road. I couldn't see anything there.

Weird.

Rock snap out from underneath your tire?

How can you get a frame for $15 when stupid tires cost $35, on sale?

eBay.

This frame I think I'll send out to be painted Orange and white with checkerboard somewhere. I may ride this to the first home game in the fall. Gonna lace my own wheels. I'm thinking white Spank rimbands laced to XT hubs with alternating Orange and white spokes and nipples. Lol. It's going to be obnoxious when I'm done with it.

Another option in that area, especially on weekday mornings, when the traffic isn't so bad: do the Old Walland Highway from Maryville to Townsend. Through Townsend on 321. Then inside the park, you can go right up and around Cades Cove, or left along the creek for a few miles. You can go all the way to the Sugarlands Visitor Center (and beyond) but you'll have a mile or two climb coming back.
