The All Things Cycling Thread

Thirty-three miles on the road bike tonight. Headwind galore and still averaged 17+mph. Where the hell was this power and endurance yesterday?!

You built it up over the weekend.

More like overnight, apparently. That kind of power would have ensured I would stay with at least the chase group yesterday. Fail.

In other news, I just put a pair of HED rims on order. Yummy. Now what hubs do I lace them to? 105? Ultegra? Something not Shimano? I kind of want some loud hubs.

Finding a mountain bike race in California, Utah, Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, or Nebraska during the weekend of August 24-26 has been unfruitful. You'd think there would be at least one race in one of those states. However, I will be in Colorado for at least one stage of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge.

Here's a video for the first part of my race on June 10th. That long paved stretch to start means I should have good positioning, if not a lead, entering the singletrack.

EDIT: I thought all week that the race is this Sunday, but apparently it's next so I have a week off of racing again. That's a relief.

Training for next week's race today meant going up hill for ~10 miles. I only logged Strava for half of the ride. Crashed once trying to avoid oncoming riders. Pulled off to the right into extremely soft stuff and my front wheel dug right in and slowly went otb. No damage, but a guy that grouped up with me did randomly shear his rear derailleur off.

I love the fact that I can compete with other people and think it will make me stronger. Saturday I turned myself inside out on stretch of road just because I knew it was a Strava segment.

My only issue is it seems to miss miles at times. On one of my rides it missed over 5 miles. On my trail runs it misses a lot of mileage. The issue could be my phone though.

It's probably your phone. I've never missed an inch on my road bike, but I did last mtb race because of low reception deep in the woods.

Probably right. I really like the competitive factor of Strava. I was trying to beat a friend and ended up posting the 9th best time. The only thing I don't like is I rode solo and 6 of the times better than me were guys riding pacelines. Wish there was a way to separate between the two.

Signed up for the Midwest Mountain Bike Festival later this month. Paid even though they told me tonight st the meeting that the guys from the shop won't have to pay since we volunteer to help out with the mtb club all the time.

Going clipless for Sunday's race. I suppose I need the extra help going uphill since the race will be approximately 2500' of elevation gain. Kinda sketched out by it, honestly.

Shop owner finally built his Voodoo Canzo 26" frame tonight with XT and an X Fusion Velvet fork. I cannot wait to get out and ride with him. He used to race XC back in the late 90's and wants to get out and race with us sometime.

I sold 2 more bikes today, so that brings my total to 7 in the last three days I've worked. I'm outselling the actual salesman...

Got my Foer high polished deep v rims in for my red Rocky Mountain today and my HED Belgiums for my Felt, so I've got some personal wheel building to do soon once I decide on hubs. Any suggestions? I need disc hubs for the Rocky and thinking Ultegra for the Felt.
