The All things Lane Kiffin Car Accident Thread (merged)

Tennessee is a traditional SEC powerhouse with much better resources and facilities than USC. USC is basically a Miami of the west coast in the fact that it is easy to recruit kids since they like to play there, but no way is it a better program. Not even close.

USC has 100x more money than UT does. You're only right about the facilities. I've not visited their campus, but from what I've heard, they're not that nice. USC has a little bit of tradition too if you check it out. My point is that coaches care most about winning, and it is a lot easier to win at USC than UT.

Today Basilio said that a local sports radio personality could be involved in this. He said he didn’t want to drag “her” through the mud and "she" did a good job this season. Heather Harrington is the only person who fits that description. Anyone heard anything about Heather’s involvement in this?

In Lane's defense and to give the devil his due, it would be hard to fault him there.

Do a little more research... Tennessee brought in $78 million in revenue last year... Southern Cal brought in $68 million. Not quite 100x more. In fact, we have more money. The disparity was even greater in last year's numbers. Keep in mind they have a terrible tv contract with FSN, and their tickets are cheaper and they sell fewer of them.

Fact: Tennessee has a better program in every major measurement.

I'm not talking about revenue chief. I'm talking about alumni. But you're right, George Lucas is on par with Jim Haslam.:glare: Not to mention that they have a thousand Jim Haslams. I really don't understand why that hasn't translated into better facilities, but it hasn't. I wouldn't be surprised if that changes over the next few years though.

because USC "fans" don't truly care about their program. In a down streak they will just move to something else instead of working to fix it

There are some die hard fans but for the most part I bet if they had to choose between USC and the LA Lakers, they'd go to a bball game.

That's definitely true. I would bet though that Kiffin pushes for nicer facilities. I don't know how USC compares to the rest of the PAC-10, but I've heard they are like 1970s-ish.

Doesn't matter if they had a thousand Warren Buffetts, it doesn't help Southern Cal athletics if they don't give away their money. George Lucas doesn't seem like too much of a football guy, anyways... I'd bet that the Haslams have given more to Tennessee athletics than Lucas has given to USC athletics.

And if the wealth of the boosters is the measurement of a program, the University of Arkansas is the best program in the country.

SC went to a BCS bowl every year from 02-08.

They have 2 AP titles and 1 Coaches poll title this decade as well as 2 Heisman winners this decade alone.

Carroll reportedly made $4.4 million last year.

Dr. Jerry Buss wrote the check for the $800K boyout on a whim.

X and O will be able to throw a rock and 25 4-star recuits or better will live in the radius in which in lands.

10 years ago UT was the better program. Right now SC is. I'm not saying I like it or it will be that way in 10 years from now, but it's the current reality.

Yep, I wouldn't imagine any smart investor putting their money in USC til the NCAA is done.

Only because of a few Wallyworld type boosters, which would probably include a few chicken pluckers. The state of Arkansas is very poor.

I'm pretty sure George is a big USC fan. He's led the Rosebowl Parade in the past couple of years and goes to games regularly.
